MOVEMENT. (12/11/15)

I think I’m getting towards a movement.

I have looked at dozens of these damn things and the ones that move all seem to have exaggerated shading round colour. I think this does creep a bit, more of a fart than a proper movement but let me know what you think………..please say it creeps.

GRpat

This is the pattern. It isn’t perfectly symmetrical but good enough to play with. The patterns have to be tileable, by default they are but you know what I mean they have to link up as……there’s a word for it………they use it in 3D UV unwrapping…Can’t recall. I will have another go. I’m thinking of two ellipses in contrasting colours then the white bits will tile to look like the black bit.

I then dropped them in a new file extended the canvas up 30%, inverted it and converted to polar coordinates and added a bit of a twirl. If anyone is having a go then lets see one that really shifts.

This is what I got.

opart12

It is actually two of the polar distorted images with the top one rotated 33+°. and it’s opacity dropped. Don’t think it makes any difference. It does move if you nod your head or scroll it so I am thinking a more symmetrical tile pattern and smaller tiles. It’s a start.

Have fun.

  1. Nope!...I've been staring at it for the last twenty minutes...and there it is, as bold as anything, still sitting on my screen...it hasn't even tried to move!!

The other one, however, is crafty...it only moves if I give it a sideways glance.

    Now, if I can focus my eyes I need to take something for my headache and have a lie down in a darkened room...[;o{

    1. The first one isn't supposed to move that is just one tile. The second one does creep a bit. I have another more complex one that seems to move. I'll work on it when my headache and eyeache have dissipated. I'll pop it in Blender an animate it.
Yes they only move if you look away a bit.
You'll not be decorating the house with Op Art I assume.

  2. I get the same as Trev with both.
I did have a movement this morning though.

    1. Keith, it is all very silly but has passed some time on whilst the rain beats down. It is sunny at the moment but not for long. Gale force wind and rain are on their way.
Good to hear from you and glad you are regular.

    1. Margaret, the second one does creep a bit if you look slightly away. It is all very silly. I have a better one and will work on it. It's amazing how big the files are.

  4. Keep taking the sennapods, Adrian - you'll get there in the end. I must confess, however, to sensing a bit of a rumble (rather than a movement) with this one!

    Best wishes - - - Richard

    1. Richard, I'll have one more really good go, it's a strain. I have done another but though more complex still only gives a bit of a wobble.

  6. Marty, it is supposed to but I can't get one to do this. Frances does have strange ideas but came up with this trivia which I thought worth exploring.

In spite of the title of her post, I did think it was worth trying to get her to do one myself, perhaps that is what is lacking in this rendition.

  7. The only time I see any apparent movement is when I scroll the page reasonably fast.

  8. I reckon the second one is probably David Cameron's lie clock. I really can't see any movement on the first image, sorry.
Keep safe tonight and tomorrow big gusty wind due.

    1. Douglas, the first shouldn't move it is just a tile.

  9. When you scroll the movement almost gives you vertigo. It's amazing how you put this together.

  11. It moves for me.. so much so that I needed to put my hand over the image to read your words. Now I have a migraine (no, I don't). ;)
