SQUISHY BALLS

This is not a complaint but a matter of physics. I've been playing in Blender again. Here is the result.

The materials are all simple and I did check for funny normals but must have missed one in the bottom glass dish as I see a nasty black mark, I failed to notice it until the render was over and as the render takes a minute and twenty seconds a frame and there are over a thousand frames I decided I could live with it. There is also a seam line, I did notice that but it is the Bezier curve I used to generate the dish. It does happen but not always and I have yet to find the solution.
Have fun, Blender 2.8 release has been delayed again. It looks good in Alpha but I suspect a new GPU may be required.
Forgot to say this is 2K so can be watched full screen if you click on the rectangular box at the bottom of the video. The gear wheel thingy will let you select resolution.

  1. Adrian, it's good to know that if ever I get some squishy balls that need sorting I now know just the person to come to!

It's all clever stuff, I admire you for sticking with it...beyond me I'm afraid...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I enjoy messing on rainy days. I barely scratch the surface with Blender. Not much it can't do really.

  2. Interesting. Well done.
The little black mark looks like a realistic crack in the glass.
Maybe you dropped a ball bearing by mistake.

    1. John. it does but I'd rather it wasn't cracked. You always have to check for double vertices when you generate hings using curves and then recalculate normals. If that doesn't work then one has to select the black faces and say flip normals.

  3. Aaahh - Squishy Ball Syndrome - I'm afraid that there's no cure for it, Adrian. You'll just have to live with it and hope that, eventually, science will come to your rescue!

Meanwhile, I'm not even going to start trying to understand the process that led to this very entertaining post.

    1. Richard, I only understand a fraction of it. I do enjoy 3D stuff but could never justify paying for software. Blender is excellent and gets better every year. FreeCad is not so stable and both use totally different mouse and keystroke short cuts. Odd as both are of Dutch origin.

    1. Graham, my ability is questionable. I get an idea then just have to persevere. I guess I'm stubborn and the rainy weather helps.
