SATURDAY SINEMA (02/04/11)

Today after heavy rain and thunderstorms last night I am feeling a little out of sorts. I can’t for the life of me explain the correlation between thunder and a feeling of lassitude so perhaps it’s pure coincidence.

Last week whilst in Rosedale I was blessed by a large flock of Goldfinch. The feeders were also host to Great Tits, Nuthatch, Siskin, Coal Tits, Chaffinch, Mallard and just to keep them all on their toes a Sparrow Hawk blasted in from time to time. That Chaos had to be seen to be believed.

It’s amazing how many small birds have survived the awful cold we experienced prior to Christmas. I can only think that it was lucky the cold came early in the winter when there was still plenty of food still around.

Rosedale1

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  1. Nice! The birds look very content...
I'm getting more and more convinced that air pressure can do very strange things to us, so no wonder if thunderstorms do. With me it's down to either believing that, or that I'm going crazy. So I prefer to blame the weather...!

  2. Monica, I really am very dozy today. Perhaps you are right though when I was working at sea I never noticed it then. Managed to edit a bit of bad video. That is a trial. Best to blame the weather.

  3. Wonderful video! I've never seen the birds with red masks before. Off to my bird book, but I'm betting we don't have them in Indiana.

  4. Scrappy Grams, they are Goldfinch. a month or two since I've seen one and then we have twenty. They are at their best in Spring.

  5. Adrian, I never felt the weather like this when I was younger. It's come with age and/or chronic pains. Today (foggy, wet and +10) it's worse than it's been all long cold winter!

  6. Monica, ten years ago I was crushed in a helicopter accident. I live with and embrace pain, it proves I'm alive. Enough said I am just a bit wimpy today. Thanks and look after yourself.

  8. Enjoyed that video Adrian.

I guess that's what HD video looks like. Very clear; that's what I want :)

  9. Lovely video Adrian. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Bob, the images are half there. The editing needs more work.

Jolynne, pretty birds help. I sort of nod off during editing.

Keith, apparently I have a halfway house HD. Cannon DSLR's seem to be the leader. It's okay I sharpened and boosted coluour a bit.

John, thanks. I hate editing the stuff. Had to edit this as there's some dog barking followed by me barking at them to shut up. I forgot the sound was on.....not nice words.

  11. Lovely clear video and a great variety of birds enjoying the feeders. I try to keep quiet when I'm taking videos, too, but it would be kind of nice to hear a photographer's voice occasionally - just not when using 'not nice words'. LOL Hope you are feeling better soon. Weather can affect people's health and moods, I'm sure.

  12. I'm impressed by the clarity of the HD. In Scotland I can sit and watch the birds on the feeders but here in NZ they would laugh at such things given the profusion of natural foods.

As a very enthusiastic advocate of helicopter travel I was upset to hear of your experience and very very humbled by your statement "I live with and embrace pain, it proves I'm alive."

  13. Graham, I'm embarrassed. Yes I was crushed, yes it wasn't good being in intensive care but I've lost two peers to those machines. If anything goes wrong they are a brick and bricks, like pigs, can't fly.
Mine is Olympus HD. Not top dog. I don't really like the medium, I nod off editing it. Cannon are the best.
John at Midmarshjottings has just got himself a proper video camera. he can edit as well. Comes with the businesss.

  14. Adrian, sorry to hear that... Didn't know! It goes back ten years for me too but the origin in my case not so dramatic - rather the opposite - small thing with consequences out of proportion. So different perspective. As for weather sensitivity, I've heard about it from others with chronic pain (or I would question my own mind). Hope you had a better day today!

  16. Well, the quality is amazing!I have added you on my youtube friends.
I like the spring and everything related to it!
I am sorry about your mood....sometimes I feel that I am struck by an airplane...
    It will pass!

  17. Wind.it has.......I'm fine but editing video is not.
    As you can tell.

  18. I agree with Wind about the outstanding quality of this clip. I'm a novice when it comes to bird watching, but I know a good one when I see one and this is so natural !

  19. Jay, the camera is fine. Editing what it produces is another matter that I will try to address.
Birds are easy......they are the creatures with feathers. I'm fortunate that a few of my visitors know what it is I've seen.
