Please be careful how you read the title the second ‘A’ is not a soft ‘A’ as in bear or lair but a hard ‘A’ as in cat or mat. I won’t fall out with you if you get it wrong. Much worse things have been said about me.
Another damp and horrid day so I decided to do a new avatar. It’s January and the month was named after the Roman God Janus; his name is pronounced with a soft ‘A’. Janus was the god of coming and going. As I rarely know whether I’m coming or going I decided to model my avatar on him.
Adrianus, the Lord of Confusion. I am not a pretty sight so may use….
Tomorrow the forecast is better so I’m hoping for some good waterfall shots.
If you can’t help with my indecision then I can always use this…
Have a good weekend.
It seems from comments that my ear was causing some picky folk distress.
Adrian IK Zou Molly en Alfie mare Gauw ENL glas whisky Geven for the Ergste Schrik.
ReplyDeleteHet spijt me om u bang te maken. het maakte me bang. Geen whisky deze maand.
ReplyDeleteAdrian ~ a selfie ~ good on you ~ very artistic ~ it has a Van Gogh quality about it.
ReplyDeleteHave an absolutely fabulous weekend too :)
Those eyes on Molly ~ you could just fall in love with them couldn't you? She is adorable.
DeleteExciting news ~ a THIRD Titan Arum has started to flower here in Cairns Adrian. First Spud, then Clarice and now Phyllis.
DeleteCarol, I've got rid of the Van Gogh ear.
DeleteWhen I can see the dogs eyes they are appealing. Usually appealing for food.
Like Triffids those Titans are, watch they don't take over.
Well Adrian, I've often heard them mentioned and now, you've just confirmed it...two faced a...holes DO exist...and you've found a name for them too!
ReplyDeleteNot a good idea using the image as an avatar though it's upsetting enough for us looking at just one image of you...a double image, with that weird looking ear, would be just too much to cope with!
Have a good weekend and good luck with the waterfall shots...[;o)
Trevor, they do and the camera never lies.
DeleteI've adjusted the ear, I'm twice as handsome as usual now.
I suspect you might be right, I'll try for a new avatar taken in thick fog.
Tomorrow it's waterfall, supermarket then off to scare the shit out of Nessy the monster.
It's a little better with just the one ear Adrian...but?
DeleteGo careful with that nessie it's a very shy creature, you know...[;o)
I am with you on this Trevor. It was a silly idea. I'll blame Alf.
DeleteWhenever I see the word avatar I always think of playing a dungeon crawling game. I would prefer Alfie as my partner. Molly looks too gentle. The light looks too un-communicative and Adrianus...well...I dunno. He needs to get his head together.
ReplyDeleteDavid, I got someone to take the picture. How it has camera movement on when taken with flash I don't know. I just can't get the staff these days.
DeleteA filosofical post Adrian.
ReplyDeleteHope the weather is good for you tomorrow.
Keith, the weather is not going to be good but it just may stop raining.
DeleteI thought of Janus as soon as I saw the picture. Clever. I do think the whole ear version is to prefer, though :)
ReplyDeleteMonica, I'm not sure I like either of them but the whole ear is better.
DeleteBloody hell! Not only have you got "eyes in the back of your head", you've also got a mouth and a nose! There are still some of those fairground freakshows around - you could make a bomb! I'd certainly pay a fiver to see "The Two Faced Freak"!
ReplyDeleteYP, I sometimes need eyes in the back of my head.
DeleteA fiver. Wow! I can see a brand new career here.
Brilliant! And as that saying goes, "you know two heads are better than one", maybe this is it??? Your "soul mate"? Well, everyone has them, except that these are more like "mirror images" of oneself. Don't tell me Narcissus had you over for dinner.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was Paul Gauguin's influence who induced you clip that ear. How can it be though; he's been long dead!
DeleteMaria, the inspiration was definitely Janus. Is their a month named after Gauguin? Thanks for the painter I can never remember which one cut his ear off.
DeleteWell, I know the inspiration was Janus, but it's still looks like a reflection. Van Gogh was the one who cut his ear off after having a quarrel with Paul Gauguin, who was another very famous painter (posthumously). Since the first one only had one ear, I made the joke refering to Gauguin, since according to history, he quarreled with Van Gogh the same night Van Gogh himself cut his earlobe. It definitely looks like Janus took you under his wing, but Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection. All in all, Alfie and Molly won the contest.
DeleteWikipedia says: "In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janus was the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, passages, endings and time. He is usually depicted as having two faces". Okay, so the first face is the past and the second is the future? Anyway it's brilliant, but keep your avatar as it is, otherwise you'll get a job at a circus, then who will take care of Alfie and Molly?
DeleteMaria, I used a bit of licence with the God of coming and going. His face used to be above the gate the legions used in ancient Rome. They saw him as they went and they saw him when they returned.
DeleteThe picture has camera shake as my friend took it for me. I set the camera up with the flash on a bracket and a soft box on it at f5.9 It worked on the dogs but Bob managed to get a blurry image. He only uses a compact so he spent more time reading what was in the view finder than he did composing the shot. I told him if nothing is flashing in it and you hear a beep just click away. I made the mistake of saying that he could always use the AF-ON button. He says they are very complicated but when I took a couple of snaps of his dog he was amazed there was no red eye.
I think With One ear as in Photo it's ok! It is really an original and New Avatar! Please use it it is great
ReplyDeleteOps Sorry i saw now the Second pic with two ears , yes both are Good
ReplyDeleteLaura, I may do it properly and use it.
DeleteYou are an artist and are blessed with beauty. You can afford to distort your own image, I'm not sure that I can.
It is just me being silly on a wet day.
:)(: That brought a chuckle!
ReplyDeleteGlo, I like the smile. hope to get some proper pictures today.
DeleteI learned about long a's and short a's. In other languages it doesn't work that way. Great photo to show confusion!
ReplyDeleteRed, no it doesn't. Most of the Latin languages use a short 'A' regardless of where it is in the word.
DeleteHi Adrian... Omg... did I ever laugh, not at your looks but at the way you did this ,,,it is just so comical!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer Adrianus the Lord of Confusion with two ears!
Never know what I will find here, seems you may be bored with the weather!!
Grace
Grace, I'm always happy to provide amusement.
DeleteI need a few good days, I hoped today may be one of them but it does not look promising.
Adrianus the Great , ha ha.
ReplyDeleteBob, a great idiot. I wish i could put it down to cabin fever.
DeleteI'm speechless...
ReplyDeleteLaura, I just hope it didn't put you off your food. One of me isn't very nice but two of me is horrid.
hahahhahahah noooo Adrian!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I will defer to an artist with a good eye. Well it's two beautiful eyes you have but paint an ugly old man and I would be happy.
DeleteI'm almost speechless ....
ReplyDeleteAdrianus ... never a one to miss a photo opportunity !
Jay, it is very silly.
