RESOLVED. (01/01/14)

Well I've never written that date before. I didn’t go out last night but went to bed and read a bit of Bernard Cornwall. I was out first thing this morning which means around eight as it’s pitch dark prior to eight. It’s nigh on dark now at just the back of two. Bloody weather it is but at least it stopped dry for our first walk.

Heaving it down again now. Raining fit for Billy-o.

I have a big pan of curry on, I’m using up all the leftovers. It’s almost a vegetarian curry but with half a chicken in. The dogs are a little upset as they were anticipating hen for tea. They don’t deserve it; on our morning stroll I stopped in the lee of the pier head for a quick tiddle and turned round and they were gone. Gone to play with a couple of spaniels it transpired when I found them fifteen minutes later. I told them last night to make a resolution to be good. They said they had but by morning it was forgotten.

I had resolved to give the drink a miss for a month then as my watch beeped noon I recalled I had an inch of Bell’s left, a glass of Merlot in a wine box and two bottles of Perroni. I can’t let drink go off so am having a proper New Year. I also have enough weed left for a spliff but can I find it? I’ll have to ask the local constabulary to bring in a sniffer dog. Even if it fails to locate it then it will provide company for my two.

That’s the whiskey gone. The Perroni is Beck’s and there are not two bottles but three. I’ll give it a whirl now. It tastes fine, glad I didn’t let it go sour. I’d better get on to todays illustrations.

_MG_2541  Nothing to get excited about they are just gravel and water. GARY posts about lawns, flowers, drinking glasses with nothing in and the difficulty of being a Christian. I empathise with the latter, I gave up years ago. I recall his affection for little stones. Beck’s is fine…only two bottles to go.

I tidied up my desktop. Does anyone else use their desktop as a dumping ground? I also sorted yesterdays Bling dominance. Go into settings>advanced> and you can reset Chrome or whatever as your New Tab browser. I had to set it to something else first then set it to Chrome again. I shut down to be on the safe side. Back to normal.

01-01-2014 13-30-00   What a tidy computer. I suspect it won’t last long but at least it will save time for a while. I have also backed up three months of snapping to an external hard drive. I don’t know why as I have little interest in pictures once they are taken and processed. They could always be better.

To quote Oscar Wilde.

“Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.”

Hvae a wndoerufl yaer. Srtnoegr tahn I tghuhot is tihs Beck’s. Blrlaianit it is.

PS. The paper shop didn’t open till ten but the Telegraph crossword is done apart from 11 across. ‘Run through gardens in the garden of England-run’. (6) It’s a Devil when one only needs one. I have S_E_E_.

  1. It's definitely not just you that uses the desktop as a dumping ground: mine is usually so cluttered it's about three icons deep in places.

Can't help with the crossword I'm afraid (I've never been any good at the cryptic clues).

Thanks for keeping us all entertained over the last year, and hope you have a good year ahead!

    1. Mark, it is nice to see so much space I can fill with stuff.

Crosswords take an hour a day. You are better steering clear of them.

I was hoping for a better time hear but the weather is just grim. I'll find some good days during the year.

    1. John, finding saved stuff has never been harder. I'll have to start naming and dating folders. I have dozens that just say New Folder.

  4. One thing I can say about myself is I keep a tidy desktop, surely one of my ancestors would be proud of that. Good luck with your resolutions, you picked a toughie. Happy New Year, Adrian, I hope your good form in entertaining your followers continues for a long time to come.

    1. Pauline I'll do my best. I could do with losing a stone. It isn't as hard to stop drinking in Scotland as most pubs don't let dogs in and the beer is an acquired taste. Much of it is a rank and evil brew.

  5. I like the first picture. The second one...is not as good as the background on your desktop.

I keep my desktop kind of tidy. All the icons are in a row at the bottom. One row - that tells you how few I have. Whenever possible I put stuff in folders and give the folders very descriptive names like "junk." Then I have "junk1," junk2," etc. The thing is you can never have enough closets in a house, an outbuilding big enough or find the end of a rainbow. It's life. I've decided to accept that.

    1. David, neither are good. The desktop image is my favourite from December. I'm hoping for some good weather today. I'll see.

  7. It sounds like you had a very quiet New Year's Eve? Did anybody ever tell you that those dogs have you trained??? You are supposed to run after them and yell all kinds of things at them. The dogs are pretty smart and can get you to do stuff!
Anyway have a great 2014 and find lots of stuff on the computer that completely mystifies you until you figure it out!

    1. Red, the dogs rule me. Alf isn't too bad as he lacks Molly's confidence. I suspect he is slowly learning from her though.
I'll no doubt find lots of things I can't do.

  11. I somehow feel sad that all those images are sitting there on that external hard drive uncatalogued. Why don't you start loading them up to that Geograph website that Yorky contributes to, so someone else can benefit from your talent and effort. And how about you use labels on your blog so you readers find all your photos from wherever or of whatever. And if you want anymore advice on what to do with those images I am sure I could come up with some more ideas ~ like putting them together in a photobook or postcards and selling them to fund your travels. What I would give to have a decent camera and half your eye.

    1. Carol, what an excellent idea. I used to use labels but now rely on Postvorta to find stuff.
I will have a real go at getting organised.
A good kick is what I need. I do find it difficult to rake up enthusiasm for images once they are processed. I know of two other snappers who feel just the same.

I'll have a serious contemplation of the alternatives and then try and do something positive.

  12. Congrats on tidying up your desktop, mine is a mess. A quick count shows I have 34 icons dotted about the place, one of which is called desktop photos … embarrassed to tell you how many are in there … probably most of last year until I blog them. I do back up once a month onto a general drive but a bit more infrequently onto a specific image back up drive as it's time consuming to create a multitude of dedicated folders.

    1. It's a nightmare of a job is backing up. My desktop usually contains abandoned video projects, ditto 3D stuff and numerous downloads of this and that.
