EDGE OF THE BAY. (02/07/14)

I was in two minds as to whether to post today. We walked the length of the beach this morning. I did my laundry, changed a gas bottle and purchased some prawns and a kipper from the fish van. If I do a supermarket tomorrow in Thurso and diesel up then I should be sorted for a week or so.

For some reason the Task Bar on the computer is not auto hiding reliably. It’s a pain because if it doesn’t it masks something in Photoshop no matter where I put it. I’ve put it on screen  (1) which is the Laptop screen and it used to be screen (2) if you see what I mean. I’ve transferred most of Photoshop and Live writer to the monitor along with Chrome. It seems to work fine like this.Dunnet Bay Dunnet Bay. It is a big beach, I bet you could land a Jumbo Jet on it. Pity someone didn’t. It would have given me something to snap.

_MG_2656    All I found was this beached Jellyfish. Alf gave it a good sniff, decided it wasn’t edible so pissed on it. Not to get left out Moll gave it her twopenneth. Alf likes the last pee so gave it another sprinkle. It certainly isn’t edible now but I may think of something to do with it’s image.

_MG_2666    I enjoyed this bit of wall, I usually like follies and this was no exception.

It’s been very windy today but warm and not unpleasant when the showers have blown through.

Tomorrow I’m heading back west towards Durness but will probably stop at Altnaharra for a few days. There are lots of Sundew, Blackthroated Divers and an incredibly beautiful German Lady; I suspect she will have taken her camper back to Germany by now but just in case I’ll be extra enthusiastic and vigilant whilst showering tomorrow. If I concentrate on the details, like not dribbling and drooling or fainting for attention, then I'm assured of success. I’ll get her a bottle of Blue Nun in Tesco. That’s a good idea and cheap.

Last year I was looking for Cup Stones but never found them, I’ll take the map and compass this time and make a determined effort. I’ll also have to Front Line the dogs as the place is knee deep in deer tics.

Unless they have installed a new mast there is no internet, phone or anything at Altnaharra. So enjoy your break and I’ll write again when I get back to civilisation.

Have fun.

    1. Peter it is just silly. Yes you did find hemp. Not all hemp plants are any good. Some are just used for rope making.

    1. Hillary, the dogs found the jellyfish. It is a wonderful and quiet beach but...Sand is sand and sea is sea. I'm away tomorrow to get some snaps of our only carnivorous plant. I just hope the dogs don't find a big one.

  4. The top layer on the kinky wall reminds me of one of the worms in the film Dune.

I wish Penny would find interesting things for me - all she finds is dubious things to eat.

  5. John, I can assure you that you don.t. I let mine run free; they found and rolled in a dead seal.
If I whistle they come flying back. They do if they have nothing more interesting to do. If they have I just get on with my walk. They catch up eventually. No point in calling if you don't mean it. I need them to sit and stay if I deploy a tripod. They do....Mostly.

  7. Love that Humpty Dumpty wall. It must have a function that this colonial is not aware of. I've never seen a jelly fish that colour, either. Or were the dogs responsible for a colour change?

    1. Pauline it is just a folly. No the jellyfish was that colour.

  8. I could say , "Why does a computer do oddball things like move things around. But I won't. It's really frustrating when things mysteriously change.

    1. Bob, I don't know why they find them so interesting. It took a lot of work did the wall.

  10. That Millennium Dyke structure is smashing and hopefully it will still be there when every person who is currently living has gone to the great dump-it site in the sky. I hope your dogs didn't urinate on that too!

    1. YP, I have quite a few photographs of it. I warrants a post on it's own.
I didn't notice them do so but it's more than likely they did.

  11. I'm being pissed on at the moment, so I know how the jellyfish must have felt.

    Good luck with Helga.
Didn't know they still made Blue Nun. A staple for any good party in the '60's.

    1. Keith, sorry to hear that.

I've stopped where I am so didn't need the Blue Nun. Altnaharra was full up. I'll try it in a few weeks.

  16. Beauty and desolation on that beach ... there's a lot of statements and randomised thoughts I'm getting that can merge in this post from your comments !!!. I'll not mention the jellyfish but hope you didn't stay to long in Thurso, 1 night was enough for me back in my railway days ...
