MIRROR MACRO. (16/07/14)

The Met office are losing the plot a bit. They have been accurate with all manner of weather for months. They have been forecasting heavy rain for me but all we get is the odd shower. Quite pleasant showers they are. I decided that after experiencing two today it was playtime. What a playtime. It’s ages since I stacked macro shots and I first had to wait while Zerene gave me a free new version. Thanks JOHN, you did mention it but I forgot. It is much better on ‘D’ Map and if you push percentile to over 50% it saves no end of clean up in Photoshop. It’s coming of age is this software.

I set up my multi-million pound indoor studio. I used to have a different cardboard box with semi-opaque plastic on top. It was a bit of old fertiliser sack. The light seemed pretty constant today so no need for that malarkey. Good job as I inadvertently trod on the old studio whilst going for a tiddle in the dark.

_V0G5466       As you can see no expense spared. The camera is tethered to the laptop via EOS utilities it’s excellent for this job. You can still go a bit dizzy sorting out start images but it beats looking through a view finder in the field.

SWEET CICELY.  At about three times life size. I used the 100mm macro with a 36mm extender, you work it out, I’ve never been able to. It saves messing with the MP-E and a macro plate or it saves messing with any macro plate I could afford.

2014-07-16-13.35       This is it’s leaf rested on a front surface mirror. That’s so you can see both sides.  I think I may have gone a bit overboard but what the hell. It is fun and it is a dull day.

flower1        This is it just starting to bloom. I bollucks this up and didn’t take enough images and also mapped them in the pyramid algorithm. I really couldn’t be arsed doing it again…..sorry.

flower2      I got a grip on myself and decided if a mirror is worth doing it’s worth doing well. I love these mirrors. I’ll admit there is a bit of crap floats about but nothing Photoshop couldn’t sort. This and the next are sixty images stacked. I think I’ve about nailed the job.

flower3      Here is Sweet Cicely ready to procrastinate. At long last I spelt it right but I did mean progenerate or breed or whatever the word is….Got it…Reproduce. There has got to be a word that means breed that begins with a ‘P’. I like being aliturate.

Amazing how it goes from green, through white to pink and yellow. What a clever plant.

Have a good day.

    1. Margaret. it's looking as if today is going to be wet again. I may go out in a while and find another snail or two. A dead beetle would be better still.

  5. I really like these images Adrian. In my head, I can see these photos arranged in a certain way like mini pics on a wall in series or something related. NIcely captured! I have been on the road for some time and I'm just now sitting down and reading blogs again:) I like when the rain just rains for a bit and not all day. That can spoil the fun.

    1. Chris, I can see possibilities here. I think insects would be a good subject but when I want a dead insect I can never find one.
It's the wind that is the problem here. It's blowing offshore so not even creating any good waves.

  6. Procreate? I needed a laugh today and this did it: I inadvertently trod on the old studio whilst going for a tiddle in the dark. ;)

Magnificent results from the Adrian Studio of Mirror, Macro and Malarkey. The details of your choices are truly amazing.

  7. To breed plants, is to propagate. I hope I spelled it right.

  8. Clever photographer too to stack all the images and then know something about the plants.

    1. Red, it's the software. I started doing these years ago and it was very hit and miss. Combine ZP was the software then and it was a horror to use.
These were done with Zerene and apart from the second one worked reasonably. I could have spent hours cleaning them up and sorting any bad images out. I was in a hurry as usual.

    1. Graham, the ones you have to watch are the ones that stack them on mirrors. Barking mad they are.
