WAX AND WANE

Two old English words meaning to get bigger or to get smaller. Have been out at night for the past few nights to get a shot of the moon through broken cloud. No luck at all too windy, the clouds, instead of complimenting the moon just messed it up. It's waning now, the bright bit is on the left, will try again tonight. An odd thing, I've always been an appalling speller but words like Wain and Wane I remember from school days. Unpleasant at the time but shows that a big stick can have beneficial effects on ones brain receptors.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA MOON AT DAWN......An impossible image, unless perchance a second star has entered our solar system. Must have been another wet day when I created this. I also tell fibs, distinctly recall posting my intention to use only current exposures. OH WELL! Intentions shouldn't be allowed to get in the way of a story. As some justification here is yesterday morning.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA DISGUSTING........Daybreak, I can't bear calling it dawn. Rain on the lens and just cleaned it too.

P7106076_5_4_3_2_edited-1 CROOKED POND.........Have used this pond before for reflected sunrises and have straightened the image. Rest easy, your eyes are fine, it is the pond that is tilted.

Now the title of this post is about to become totally irrelevant. Went out this afternoon as I heard rumours of Southern Hawker and Emperor Dragon Flies. Saw the Hawker, fast flying and skittish. Never settled long enough for a picture. All was not lost as there were dozens of Common Blue, a few Large Red and a solitary Blue Tailed Damsel Fly. The images could be better but I'm just a beginner. Will have to either use a tripod, or get a can of fly spray. Trouble is they always settle at an oblique angle to the sensor plane so one bit OK the rest out of focus. Mock if you like but remember I suffered for these. Two hours crawling about in a bog, a welly full of water, a wet bum and a sore throat from shouting at Molly. She spent the entire time collecting baby frogs. She doesn't harm them just retrieves the poor mites from the water and puts them on the bank. A dog of little brain.

That's all for today, have a good weekend.

  1. I love the Common Blues about to mate. I'm not sure that translating that into the human world would work though. "Would you like sex, dear? Just hang on a moment while I throttle you..."

  2. Not up north it wouldn't. I've a broken nose to prove it! Heard of some funny goings on down south though. Wasn't going to post it but I've a better one in a similar vein.

  3. I love the shot of the pond. I would be thrilled to get images of Dragon Flies even half as good as yours. I managed to get my first shot of one a few days ago and you can't even tell what it is.

  4. Shots like that I could do with Tricia. Half the time I don't know what it is. I'm pretty safe if I start with common, add big or little and finish off with the colour. Doesn't work with Wagtails though!

  5. Great shots as always Adrian, especially that first one.
The Damsels were worth the 'suffering' too.
    Good post. :)
