A FORM OF SELF (16/10/09)

The last couple of nights I've not been sleeping too well, put it down to not being tired enough. Then started worrying that I may have left undone something that should have been done. That's never stopped me sleeping before. After much pondering, the only thing I could think of was my Avatar, now nearly five years old and hardly recognizable as the raddled old geezer that confronts me in the mirror every morning.

So being still a touch indisposed I've decided to do something about it. Looked up Avatar, as I didn't recognise it as Latin, and was surprised to find it's of Sanskrit origin and means a 'A form of self'.

Like all jobs, they have a tendency to start out simple and become more problematical. Looking round for a suitable backdrop against which I would be shown to advantage all I could find was the dogs bed. As the dog has been sleeping on it for well over a month it was not, to put it mildly, of studio backdrop standard, so off to the laundry.

Now I would appreciate a little assistance, I've numbered my likenesses 1 through to 6, and request your valued opinion. Before you start I realise I may have to make the decision alone. When all is said and done, one cow pat looks much the same as another.

Just to help relax you and put you in a positive frame of mind Avatar has come to mean in English 'A bodily manifestation of the divine.'

Am still on with the screen grab, harder than it at first appears. Also we live in dangerous times, noticed this sign on the way to the washing machine.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA AND WHAT IT REALLY SAYS.

A bit of a pain being laid low, it's drizzling today so not really missing much. Catch you tomorrow.

  1. Lol...interesting post Adrian. I'm torn between two shots. I really like #2...but #5 tickled my funny bone I like that one as well. IT will be interesting to see which ones others pick and which on you yourself pick. Have a wonderful day Adrian

  2. You are the brave one! bet nobody else replies, but then your manifestation of the divine is real . So many hide behind a camera, not to say I won't shift a wrinkle or ten before using the chosen image. Cheers.

  3. Hey, give me time!
For your bodily manifestation of the divine I choose number 4. Everything that I know about you in the short time since I was lead to your blog is in that shot. Bright, intelligent eyes, a look of enquiry, humour around the mouth, self assurance in the set of the shoulders.
But, really, I think you should ask someone who knows you personally - they will know which one depicts you most accurately. And, of course, you have the casting vote.
    Great post!

  5. While avoiding wild rabid rabbits I would rather chat with number 4 or maybe number 6, I would be running with the rabbits if I chose 2, 3 or 5!

  6. Number 2; I think.
Although number 3 captures the kind of puzzled look I usually walk around with.

Hope you manage to get some sleep lol

  7. Thanks one and all, we have a tie between numbers two and four, the set of the shoulders has more to do with holding the flash out to one side Pauline. Had a shave prior to the shoot so the beard was itchy, should have brushed my hair but I can't be expected to remember everything.
At least Molly has a clean bed!!

  8. Number 3. Move the hand up and scratch the top of your head. Puzzled look.

  9. I'm always a little perplexed, that's two for that one as well. Redone it now but to change would mean rewashing the dogs bed. Next year!

  10. A bit too late but here goes. #2 looks relaxed but I think you secretly have a streak of mischief which would go with #5.

  11. Not that it matters now, but I like #2 far and away the best. Forget the shoulders-- the eyes have it.
