MOVING. (21/01/14)

Tomorrow I’m moving about twenty miles down the road to Aviemore. I know or suspect both phone and 3G will be absent for the duration of my stay. I have booked for four days but if the weather looks good I’ll stop for longer.

imageThe water to the left of the yellow star is Loch Morlich. I camped here in January forty years ago. It wasn’t a proper campsite then and the temperatures I remember were very low at around the low minus teens centigrade. What is remarkable is that though I can remember superb skiing and climbing I can’t recall the cold. I was really sad to leave. I can remember the journey back in a series two Landrover. My bum was numb after twenty miles and the pain kicked in at fifty miles. It was not a vehicle designed for comfort or three hundred mile journeys.

This morning I went into town.

_MG_2718   It was a raw murky morning.

_MG_2721The war memorial only commemorates the dead from the first and second wars. It seems to honour those who died from half the Spey Valley. There are an awful lot of names on the other three faces.

_MG_2724 The Town Hall. I’m waiting for my laundry so had a play.

_MG_2727  I left this in colour as it’s nice to see a bit of blue sky. I don’t know why the traffic lights are amber-red-green. It’s the camera and not the lights they should be red-amber-green. Most odd.

Have a good weekend I’ll be back as and when.

  1. Interesting to see all this city life all of a sudden. I see you have some a toned image in there.

  2. Maria, it is only a small town. The toned images were to pass the time while my clothes got washed.

  4. If it's the Glenmore site, then you will enjoy I am sure. I spent a lot of my youth using it a a base site for when I went off for weeks at a time survival training in the Cairngorms. Also, I don't know if it's still there, but there is a lovely wee pub on the same road that stocks a few nice malts. Have a safe journey.

    1. Gary, I'll keep an eye out for the pub. It's only half an hour away but I need some shopping and I fancy lunch out so will stop in Aviemore.

    1. Trevor, it isn't the Alps. They are a different breed of skier up here. Skiig on ice in driving rain has lost it's appeal.

    1. It has stayed dry but is damp and raw. Monotone suits the weather.

  9. You live like a fugitive. Always on the run. This time hiding out in Glenmore Forest like Raoul Moat. What did you do wrong when you were a pirate on the Spanish Main and will the authorities ever track you down? See next week's exciting episode of "The Quest for Adrian" starring Ricky Tomlinson as Adrian with Shep from Blue Peter and Wellard from Eastenders as Molly and Alf.

    1. YP, I can't settle at the moment. I'm looking for a bright crisp winter. I'm pretty sure it's yet to come.

  10. You found out for sure it was a town hall. Good going. :)

I like both B&W but the memorial best. Did you use Bertha?

It certainly is a pretty town. We used to have a couple redlights like those. I'm too color blind to tell the difference between red and green on them. I used to stop regardless of the color. If no cars were coming I would go on. If there were a car behind me and he either blew his horn or made a rude gesture, I knew to go on.

    1. David , I didn't, Bertha is a 400mm lens.These were all shot through a 50mm.

These are not real traffic lights but are a pedestrian crossing. We used to call the Pelican Crossings. Lord knows why.

  11. Oh I like Aviemore, there used to be a fantastic bakery that does Scotch Pancakes near the train station on the High Street. There used to be an old train shed too with a steam train they use in the summer might be worth searching for.

  14. Great capture of the detail on the soldier, there mustn't have been many people left in the valley after the war.
