ELVES AND FAIRIES (21/09/09)

A transition day, we are moving south down the road a few miles to Beddgelert,  we visited by train the other day and thought it would stand another weeks wandering.

For those romantics who give credence to the existence of the little people and noticed that wonderful rainbow in the last post, well the self same thing has happened again. Coincidence? Nah....manipulation!...........In both cases!
ROPE WHEEL....What for? Not a very substantial piece of equipment. Space for a couple of turns of rope on the pulley and the bit to the left is a brake band. Similar in principle to the head gear you would have found at the top of an inclined way but nothing like strong enough. I suspect it was the control for a small stone crane or sheerlegs. This in a nature reserve just up the road from us. A few hundred feet lower was Dragon Fly territory, needless to say not a one to be found.

They also run a diesel locomotive. Leaving railways for a while, want to have a look at the Ffestiniog Railway before leaving the area but that's in the future
Arrived in the Beddgelert Forest around noon, nice change being in a wood and a good site, plenty of space and the squirrels and rabbits are almost tame.
        
Molly can hardly contain herself, there she is looking out of the van window and her favourite prey not six feet away.

     RED SQUIRREL......... Well yes and no. There are no Red Squirrels here so I'm afraid to say I was driven to paint a grey.
