STORM (25/10/09)

image

image    It's thirty years since I was last on the Gower Peninsula, I've been looking forward to returning for some weeks. As so often happens, the reality hasn't matched my anticipation. The area is undoubtedly well worth a visit but weather and a recurrence of my ankle injury have conspired to thwart  my intention of enjoying the limestone coastal scenery.

We got out this morning and had three hours of fine weather before the squalls returned. Walked down to Rams Grove, the seas driven by a southerly gale, were most impressive. My spectacles, the camera, covered in spray. So I apologise for image quality, I should have used manual focus as the auto was struggling, never gave that a thought, hence the photographs have suffered.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The sun came out and after another good polishing the camera produced a few smeary images.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Fetching the paper Saturday morning...............First one of these I've tried, interesting so will try some more.

Off to Bristol tomorrow, so should have internet. I will have a look at the S.S. Great Western and see what else the restored waterfront has to offer.

  1. Still good shots. I really like that second one. We had a furious storm last week and my camera wouldn't do anything.

  2. Brave man taking the camera down there in that weather. Cracking shots of the waves though Adrian.

  3. Agree with Tricia. Some nice seascapes. You are getting closer to us in the West Country...when do you expect to hit Cornwall or is it all being played by ear?

  4. Tricia, thanks, best keep it dry unless you can get a watertight box, that will cost as much as the camera.
Keith, good you are OK, or as OK as we get, tis old age and the creative spirit that cause the blues. One good thing about Olympus E-3 No worries about weather, even give it a rinse and blow dry when I get in.
Watcher, Dec end of Nov, apparently there is a light show in Mousehole or the vicinity end of |Nov. Seen it from the sea.

  5. I must say, Adrian, that you have captured some seas I have not seen and probably never will Your camera caught the action just right I would say. What a nice set of photographs these are.

I am sorry about your ankle injury coming back to bug you but it might be the price you paid to get these pictures.

  6. Thanks Abe, doesn't help walking down near vertical, could have done with a bit of backlight on the waves. Next time!

  7. Forget about focus and camera debacle....What we have got so far is beyond my imagination....I hardly have the courage to grab a shot during strom... not even from our roof top.
these shots are simply great! I liked all the pictures and specially those were taken after the strom.

    Nice post...thanks for sharing :)

  8. The Christmas lights Adrian. Newlyn and especially Mousehole are renowned for them. Well worth a look.

  9. Sharodindu, thank you, I use a screw into the ground and tie the tripod to it. Weather is weather, go play see what you get.
