WRITHING ROCK (04/10/09)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After a morning of gale force winds and squally rain the sun came out, all of it, not a cloud in the sky. Still very windy.

This is going to be difficult but here goes. Living in the gorse and heather are some small sparrow sized birds, they aren't rare, they fly up when disturbed making a squeak rather than a whistle and flap their wings in short bursts of about a second. Tried on this occasion and on several previous occasions to get a picture  but it's near impossible. Does anyone have an idea what they could be?

Went to walk a short loop to the south. Still can't get access to the sea cliffs very frustrating as there are some wonderful rock formations. Here are a few, two to be precise.

Must have been warm here I can imagine this rock oozing up a fissure and writhing to the surface. Tried to find some side lit but to no avail.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     The sea wasn't as rough as I expected it to be but managed to produce the odd splash.

Strange goings on. Couldn't work out what this is all in aid of. Not sea defence work. After several enquiries it appears they are prospecting for gold. They suck up sand from the sea bed and analyse it for the precious metal. Why here? Have they found any? Who are they? Will wander down on Monday and ask.

Eventually arrived at a beach, access at last, it wasn't to be, no dogs allowed. In summer I can just about understand such a restriction but at this time of the year it seems a little heavy handed.

  3. Beautiful rocks! I like natural patterns!
By the way I think about opening new album in my gallery with photos of natural patterns - closeups of wood, stone, water, coverlet of leaves and so on.

  4. Your mystery bird could be a Meadow Pipit; you'll just have to get pictures Adrian lol
Those rocks do look interesting, with the creases and folds.
And some hefty scaffolding there. That must have taken ages to erect.

  5. Thanks Brainworker, be better side lit, good idea, I keep textures in a separate folder.
I'll go tomorrow Keith and sit till I get one, devils to spot in the gorse.
Sorted the gold business, they are diving on an old wreck and emptying the accumulated sand with a vacuum hose. They haven't found any yet but seem optimistic.Have to be doing that for a living.
