THE GLUE POT (25/11/09)

After our somewhat abortive trip over the harbour to Flushing we wandered down to the Chain Locker it was shut but having asked nicely..(Prostrating myself on soaking wet cobbles, and weeping profusely). We were invited in to take some pictures. These are all shot without flash at 1600 ISO. Would have preferred some off camera fill flash but Molly can't for the life of her work it and the staff were polishing and cleaning. I enjoy the challenge of this mixed light and no light photography. Even for once remembered to pop on a sparkly filter, Star Filters I believe is the correct term. I'm amazed it was in the camera bag, usually when I require anything 'I've forgotten it behind at home'. The last quaint expression is dedicated to a French girl I used to sail with.

So here goes sparkly pictures of The Chain Locker.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMore like an Estate Agents brochure than a blog, if you haven't got the message by now you never will, I like this pub and like it a lot.

Tomorrow we are off to St Austel and then up to St Agnes.

  2. Heaving mostly, very cosmopolitan crowd from students, hippies, fishermen and housewives shopping. still possible to run a good clean alehouse.

  3. Looks like my kind of pub. Wish I was there now, in fact. I probably wouldn't want to leave,

  5. Greenfingers, hence the title Glue Pot once in one is stuck.
Dungha, thanks, could do better but it takes a ton of lights and a better man than me. If you are interested google strobist and see what they can do.

Nice pub, great pictures. It reminds me of a pub before "Happy Hour". I am enjoying your blog.

I am new to blogging and I wonder if I may be so bold as to ask you a question. Why is it that some of my pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them but others can't? I find this very frustrating but I am unable to figure it out. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

  11. Ta Trevor.
Gwentman, not sure myself, mine will but only a bit. I compose in Livewriter because it's quick and free. I also drop all pictures to a few 100KB so my longest side is 900 pixels, will try tomorrow at double that and see if they open larger. If you want to know how to compress for the web let me know. All the best.

  12. A REAL pub! You've really captured its character there Adrian. Excellent shots. I'm sure they'd love printed copies of these.
I keep looking at that second one, and seeing myself sat there with a pint and big grin.

  13. They may like copies Keith but where would they put them. Would take a better photographer than I to do it justice even with a stack of off camera lights and a team of assistants. I do like these sorts of location loads of reflective surfaces and black corners. Stopped for a pint, good beer and friendly folk. Get yourself down there.

  14. One of the things I miss in the Highlands of Scotland and in New Zealand is a 'proper'pub. Mind you they are becomming more rare in England and Wales these days.

  15. The sparkly filter worked well. Very professional looking. More lighting could have killed the atmosphere. The room is a tad over cluttered for my liking but it still looks a friendly inviting atmosphere.

  16. Yes John a good buy found it in the second hand filter bin, can put sparkles in with a brush but this way is quicker. If you think this is cluttered see it after 8pm one can't move.
Gb, Unfortunately they are, the good ones seem to survive, nice to see the technology works. Should do the price they charge.

  17. One thing I miss about no longer using my SLR is my star filter. I don't miss it enought to go back though.

  18. John Ta must remember Star Filter, sparkley is just lodged in my mind. I can e-mail some brushes that do the same job. Get you adulterating your pictures as well!!!
