On Thursday we moved five miles or so down the reservoir to Leaplish Waterside Park. Despite advertising internet they don’t have WiFi but apparently one can access ones e-mail accounts at the conference centre.
This is the view from the front of the van, things could be a lot worse. There are notices all over the place warning of Adders so given luck and a following wind we may yet get a photograph or two.

We have had several enjoyable walks but are not seeing anything but Chaffinch, I’ve never seen so many, they seem to thrive on the pine kernels, good news for them.

It could just be the time of year but I just cannot comprehend the almost total absence of waterfowl.

What these are all about I really couldn’t say but they are not doing the trees very much good. Should the tree grow over these then I would love to be a fly on the wall when the lumberjack finds one with his chain saw.
I have made the decision to cut my losses and move on towards Hexham Monday. So we will see what next week throws our way. It’s a grand view over the water and I can’t really explain why I am so disappointed with this area. I can only think my expectations were too high. I was going to pay Kielder a visit last year but heeded a warning from a camper I met. He described the area as a sterile dump. I’m afraid he appears to be right. The only solution I can see is to start planting vast numbers of deciduous trees. Thirty years from now it could be the paradise I was expecting. Be a few years too late for me unfortunately.
Those are beautiful scenery's, so good to be there at this time.

ReplyDeletejo, no probably a bit cool for them. I did tie the dog up and lift a few likely stones, I'm a bit wimpy having been bitten twice. They are beautiful, I'll find some sooner or later as they seem to be increasing again.

ReplyDeleteNo idea what those metal things are in the trees. Does seem rather strange; and destructive.
Keith, Chaffinch are in flocks like Starlings, unbelievable. There are many strange things about the whole area.
