MAY DAY EVE (30/04/10)

We were out at first light this morning and lovely light it was. Coolish, glad I put a jacket on. Even more relieved as we had a quick shower on the way home. For the first time in ages the heating is on and a serious squally belt of rain has just passed through. The weather gods are just gearing up for the holiday weekend.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Low sun casting shadows across a field that will soon be producing Oil Seed Rape I guess.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We waited ages for this female Pheasant to step from the shade. This was as close as she got, she about turned and pecked her way back into shadow.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEarly morning light, this is where we have spotted deer but there was not sight nor sound today.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAStill a very nice time of the day to be out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Dunstanburgh Castle……….This is what I would have liked it to look like. It never has whilst we have been here so gave it a bit of a shove in the right direction.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   I’ve never seen a May Day card but thought as it’s a touch inclement  I would do you one, Have a grand weekend wherever you are.

Tomorrow we are heading down into North Yorkshire. I’m not sure quite where.

  1. Dunstanburgh Castle had a really good shove in the right direction. It looks excellent. The sky makes it.
Love the shots of the woods too.
Now, I may be wrong, but the lady Pheasant looks very much like a Grey Partridge to me. Not something you'd see every day.

Have a safe trip tomorrow Adrian.

  2. Keith, now I look in the book a Grey Partridge it is.....There was a male pheasant 100yds away. That's what tricked me! There were two of them but one ran off. Many thanks.

  7. Matron thank you, put the greeting down to the weather hail storms now sunny in between.

  8. The gentler sunrise lighting is just right for the woodland scenes. Trouble is those sort of lighting conditions are short lived so you captured it at just the right moment.

As for the greeting - Very artistic and effective.

  9. Happy May Day Adrian. The pictures are stunning, but my favourite was the castle in the morning.

  10. So many beauties in this post!!! The may day card is beautiful, I love those flowers and the effects you chose are really fun!

I LOVE the castle shot. I'm curious about how you "shoved" it in the right direction. Whatever you did it really looks great!

  11. Hi Adrian..Agree with Keith...the sky makes for a dramatic shot. The woodland shots are well lit and appealing. Somehow I think you are happy to be moving on...have a good trip tomorrow.

  12. John, yes it only lasts a few minutes.

Bob, thanks and the same to you.

Krista, Both shots the sky and the castle were taken within half an hour. The foreground was darkened. duplicate the background layer set blend to multiply then erase bits, at 20%, the side of the castle. Sly dodged and burned and given a lift with the saturation sponge All the latter at under 10%. Bout it!

Trevor, yes I never find this area grabs me as it should.

    Angie Thanks.

  13. It's good to be back rambling with you in Blogland once again. A week seems like an age.

Looking out over my treeless vista makes me apppreciate a walk through the woods with you even more.

  14. Good grief, no wonder I can't "shove", it sounds like maths! Glad you do it so well, though. That's a great shot.
