THE SKY BY DAY AND NIGHT. (11/09/14)

I managed two and a half hours of starry sky last night and then a combination of the moon and condensation put a stop to playtime.

I really could do with a cloudless moonless night but that rarely happens here. It’s rare to get a clear sky whatever the phase of the moon. Exposures for the stars were 25s with a 5s interval. It seems about right. There are few if any hot pixels. I did take a couple of dark frames at the end but didn’t need to use them.

It would be good to get eight hours of stills as that would give about 25s of video. I’ll have to try and either build a lens warmer or see if the cheap hand warmers work.

It’s yet another glorious day with the temperature already up around 18o C. Yesterday it peaked at 28o C. That’s as hot as it’s been all summer.

We had an early walk but there was little around.

Tomorrow I’m thinking of heading up the glen for some long exposures of the river but there isn’t much water in it. I’ll also have to nip down to the village as I need some shopping. I have plenty of dried stuff and tins but prefer fresh if it’s available.

A week today the Scots will be voting to stay in or leave the rest of the UK. Cameron, Milliband and Clegg are up here so that should give a boost to the Yes camp. It probably accounts for the unseasonably hot weather. Every cloud has a silver lining.

That’s all for today.

  1. I liked the video but just wish to night sky was a bit longer but understand the technical difficulties you're facing nevermind the amount of footage needed. I also enjoyed the choice of music.
Just think if Scotland votes Yes it's the end for Cammo Cleggy and Ned

    1. Douglas, I will try 15s exposures next time.
It will help Cameron. He has practically no support in Scotland anyway.

  2. I like your last paragraph. Sometimes the bigs are more of a hindrance than a help.

    1. Hilary, it isn't hard work it's fun. I need to find a way of getting longer star sequences. I will have another go this evening if it's clear.

  4. Brilliant Adrian. Love the day to night time lapse.
The temperature should keep up as there is plenty of hot air in Scotland at the moment.

    1. John, I started out a few weeks ago shooting 50s exposures. I'll have to star stack them.
I will try a 10s exposure which should give folk time to see the stars moving. I just wish we had clearer skies there was a far bit of hazy cloud about when I took this.

Dithery cooled things down a bit by crying crocodile tears. He is an arrogant pillock. I only heard excerpts from his bluster and waffle but repeating "My country" did not do him any favours. It's our country. A less self centred and arrogant man would have known that.
