I CAN SPELL. (20/02/15)

I feel better than I’ve felt for a couple of months so good in fact that I’m going out for another walk this afternoon. I’m going to complete the traverse of the campsite and visit the Pine Marten Bar where I shall sample the falling down water and annoy Yvonne.

This morning I got lost in the forest. I went looking for the fungus and have marked the deer trail it lies off with a big stick. Tomorrow I’ll take a macro lens down and also bring a bit home._MG_2683     It is tiny as you can see from the lichen. The only fungus I know of that grows on Scots Pine is Phellinus pini or Conk Rot. That is a much bigger sort of thing, I know where there is some but it is too high up for a picture.

_MG_2688    After a quick consultation with my compass and a twenty minute scramble through heather and young pines we hit the proper path and followed it down to the burn.

_MG_2686       How the dogs can consider swimming I don’t know. I wouldn’t put my or your finger in it.

_MG_2684    Here goes; this stream flows out of Corrie na Ciste and is called Abhainn Ruigh-eunachan. Easy for a spiller of my ekspeeriance.

Have a great weekend.

  1. It all looks wonderful. I had conk rot after my recent operation. It was worse than childbirth.

    1. Frances, I thought they looked a bit gloomy but it was a good morning.

How is your nose now? I hope after the pain your conk is rot free.

  2. Absolutely gorgeous and beautiful photography today. Love your two dogs on the side of the path, as well as swimming in the river. :)

    1. Mersad, the dogs are mad. The water is snow melt and the air temperature was only just above freezing.

  3. Adrian check out Scots Pine Blister Rust fungi...Peridermium pini and Cronartium flaccidum they are much the same thing and not easily separated. Or maybe Fomes Butt Rot ((sounds painful!)) Herterobasidion annosum (Fomes annosum).

That looks a lovely place that you're staying in, the path through to pines looks wonderful, I'd love to walk it, just the place to get lost in!!

A good weekend to you too...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I'll check these IDs out. Thanks. The paths are ski trails and they go for miles. It's when I get off the paths I get lost.

  4. I nevertheless expect that you would swim a few laps in the lake

  5. I would have stayed lost, although I suppose I could follow the river downstream to civilization. Beautiful photographs today, and good luck with your quest for fungus.

  6. Well, I'm not sure what a burn is but at least you got home. What I really like are the shots of the stream with the snowy mountain in the background.

    1. Douglas, I knew roughly where I was but it is easy to become disorientated.

  10. It never dawned on me that with all the wandering you do you might become lost. I imagine if you waited long enough the dogs would know which way to go for food. I think your last three images today as just lovely.

    1. Pauline, I wander about in a dream. The dogs would stay out all day. I suspect hunger would eventually get them home.

  11. Allt Mor is easier to spell than Abhainn Ruigh-eunachan which sounds like the sound someone with a chest complaint might make when hawking up phlegm in the morning.

    1. YP, I did pronounce it without too much hilarity. Avan Rhoo yuonackan.

  12. The stream at the bottom of the mountain rich in bird life. At least the Gaelic is a tad shorter although I'd rather spell the English.

    1. Gracias Laura. No estoy seguro de si los perros son valientes o estúpidos.
