I LOST IT. (06/07/15)

I have one picture today as I found a large and interesting bug and then lost it after one click. I had it in the viewfinder but then it disappeared.

_V0G9718              Bronze Shieldbug

Troilus luridus.

I have searched everywhere for it but all I got for my trouble was prickly hands caused by stinging nettles.

I have a few jobs to do now so will have another look later. I would really like to find one in one of it’s several nymph stages as they are very colourful.

Have a good week.

  1. Have you tried looking for it in your underpants - presuming of course that you're not going commando this summer.

    1. YP I hope not. An insect this size could do serious damage.

  2. Don't worry. This is one but great macro as usual!

    1. Kovacs, it would have been nice to have several views of it. I'll have another look later.

    1. No Carol, it is on an Elderflower tree somewhere. Unless it's flown somewhere.

  4. Sometimes, one is enough.
See if my Flickr version of the photo is better for you. You should be able to see the outline of the trees and barn better than in the Blogger version. It's still dark, but that's the way it was, so I wanted to maintain that. https://flic.kr/p/vfRZNE

    1. Never John, I wanted views from all sides at different magnifications.

  5. I've just had to spray the woodlice who are eating their way through our back door, and I thought that you would photograph rather than spray. But we need our back door. I never, ever kill anything unless I have to, so this went against the grain. I feel quite sad about it. Apparently woodlice are very good mothers. Oh dear.

    1. Frances, I have only seen woodlice eating rotten wood so maybe it's time to start saving for a new door.

    1. Graham, lucky the first one was in focus. I don't often see shieldbugs.

  8. HI Adrian Only glad you lost it outside and not in your van but anyway this is a superb macro shot of it.

    1. Margaret, it would have kept the flies away, not that they have been a nuisance this year.

  9. Nice find Adrian, it's really annoying when they disappear like that.
I'm sure if you keep looking it'll pop up again for you, and maybe some nymphs too?...good luck...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I wasn't best pleased. I don't think it flew away as it takes them a while to get their wings sorted out.

  10. Nice bronzy tone to this one. Stay away from the nettles or get some gloves and leather sleeves of some kind. nettles aren't nice.

  13. It's not often I see one of your bugs and think I've seen something similar. If it were green I'd say it looks like one of our stinkbugs and I wouldn't be in a hurry to catch one of them.

    1. Pauline I'll look stinkbug up. Several beetles and bugs emit a stink if threatened.
