SATURDAY SINEMA. (18/07/15)

The weather has got a whole lot worse. Yesterday evening and part of the afternoon were spent making a bit of video. JOHN at MIDMARSH JOTTINGS posted a cracking little video showing a grass spider or some such beast so I decided to have another go at close up video. This is about 1:1.3 on the sensor and cropped from 1080 to 720, near enough true macro. I have tried macro video indoors but as it is supposed to be summer I have been making the most of gaps in the wind and rain by taking all my pictures outside or alfresco as they say in clement climes.
This video is a little amateurish and before you mock or roll about in hysterics it is supposed to look homemade. It's a genre I am developing and will try and refine further in future productions. If you wanted to see professional video then I suspect you would be viewing The Blue Planet or watching The National Geographic channel.
I am sorry I couldn't credit the music. It's called Afterglow and it was in my downloads. I don't have the composer or performer. The narrator is me and the little bird singing is by Little bird. The unexpected appearance of the mini backhoe is courtesy of Andrew.
Without further ado here is the premier of BUZZZ.

    1. Margaret, I think I need to sort out a few minor problems. Looking on the brightside you can tell it's a bee.

  3. Not sure why but I laughed at the cameo appearance by Andrew. The video is much better then anything I could attempt but I think I would be tempted to look for the bird calling in the background. Afterglow meant something else to me but less said the better.....

    1. Douglas, he is a bloody nuisance. I had only been in the workshop setting the tracks to wide as he said it was going out on a walling job. Next I know it's thin again and bumbling through my bees. The bird song was recorded separately just for a bit of ambience.

  4. I enjoyed it. It is a pity that other filmakers don't talk about technical concerns in their documentaries. This would add another dimension to the viewer's entertainment. David Attenborough should forget about the chimps and birds of paradise and instead devote his narrations to lenses and other technical issues. Far more interesting.

    1. YP, Glad you liked it.. I agree we all know what a chimp or a whale looks like. I'll have to script my voice overs, I have some more footage or in this day and age minuteage. I'll do another one.

  5. I like the way the digger has used colour to camouflage itself as a bee.

  6. Whenever I get a notion to photograph a bee, it flits so often and quickly that I invariably give up the notion.

    1. John, the umbrel type plants are good as the flowers are too small for them to hide in.

  8. Tina, I am in video mode at the moment and will pop out a bit later when the sun starts heading down. It's very windy today.

  9. Given the problems of getting a still photo in our weather (regardless of trying to stabilise flowerheads) getting a video goes down as a gigantic achievement in my book.

    1. Graham, I have at least two different sets of software for stabilising video and I have plenty of pixels to work with. Blender compositor now has the means to do the job but I keep getting lost whilst doing it. I think Mark wrote some script to do it quickly but I'll have to look and see if he posted it.

  12. Well, Adrian, I don't buy the line of amateurish video. You start stuff way ahead of the curve.

    1. Red, It isn't up to the standard of Spring Watch or the nature programmes we get here. Mind you it only took five or six man/hours not sixty.

  13. Enjoyed this immensely, Adrian. If this is what you get up to when the weather's foul - LET IT RAIN !!!!!!

Seriously though, I hope that you are soon bathed in sunshine. Best wishes - - - - Richard

    1. Oh. I meant to say, please don't be tempted to video the bonking beetles or you'll get the porn squad onto you!

    2. Richard, It's been very sunny this afternoon but far too windy. I have got several minutes of wind waves on the barley to use as fill. Plenty of sound recorded. Tomorrow is forecast to be very wet but brightening so with a bit of luck there will be insects about late Sunday. I'll try for a more polished video on Monday.

  14. First, thanks for the mention and link.
You had a nicely co-operative bee there Adrian so you were in with a sporting chance. Here they only spend a few seconds in one place. Nice little video and well kept in focus a lot of the time.

I can see by the lush vegetation how you manage to find so many insects to photo.

    1. John, credit where it's due I had got disillusioned with close up video, you inspired me to have another go.
Most insects stay put on the umbrel type plants as they can walk from flower head to flower head.
Yes I must have another drag through the undergrowth.

    1. Terri, I don't like hearing myself. I sound a bit special needs. I am getting used to my voice as editing audio I hear it a hundred times. I am thinking of having electrocution lessons.

  16. After more than 50 years of making my living with my voice, I can tell you getting used to your own voice isn't easy. And I LOVE the idea of electrocution lessons! FUNNY! Enjoyed the video. By the way, Mt. St.Helens did rumble again a bit in 2004 ( I think that was the year), but it was just a little gas passing and didn't amount to much more than a bit of media nonsense.

    1. Bill, the problem I have is that I'm doing my own editing of both the video and audio tracks. I spend ages scrubbing through both and then get it wrong. I think it is a job that requires training and discipline.

  17. I'd say that was rainy weather time well spent. I enjoyed the video, little bird was in fine voice, a nice blend with the dulcet tones of the commentator. As you know, I have no appreciation of the technical side.

  18. Amateurish, I dont think so, in fact the very laid back tone of your voice was quite relaxing, you wouldn't want to hear me in full doric mode.

I could do with someone else to do the commentary then I could really criticise or be critical in my editing.
