Off we set for the dogs constitutional and hopefully some pictures. This is a view down the Wye valley the spire just right of centre belongs to All Saints church Bakewell. Not quite enough mist around but heading in the right direction.
Monsal Head, the lower or less tall building used to be the pay office during the railway construction it is now a cafe. The pub is on the left.
The construction of the viaduct is unusual in that it comprises blue brick, limestone, and gritstone………can’t you just tell it’s one of those days…..Nodded of yet?
Hobb’s House despite the nonsense about giants and corn threshing I gave you yesterday it is actually a landslip. It is also on private land and difficult to access. There is a cave, more of a fissure really that runs down the back of it.

These are Cramp Balls, if you keep one in your pocket and feel it from time to time you will never suffer from cramp………..you will however suffer some very strange looks. I suspect proffering the excuse that one is fondling ones Cramp Balls would merely exacerbate the situation. If you prefer they are also known as King Alfred's Cakes and no doubt something posh in Latin.
We had a walk down Tideswell Dale yesterday afternoon and found this impressive Water Vole carved from a log. It’s four feet long or thereabouts a grand job.
I’ll be out later and should anything of interest transpire will post in the morning prior to leaving for Devon.
Great post again Adrian. Had me laughing aloud at a few bits. I suffer with cramp myself, so I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some cramp balls, and giving them a fondle. I'll try anything twice.

Keith, they are most commonly found on rotting Ash trees...give them a whirl and let us know how you got on....assuming they allow internet access in police stations.

ReplyDeleteBob, I like the wood carvings. About twenty years ago they commisioned about a dozen in the dale most have rotted now. be good if they replaced them all.
