UP WITH THE GOLDFINCH (01/08/10)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was up before dawn this morning driven out of bed by severe flatulence. Not mine but Alfies, a condition he seems totally oblivious to. Exacerbated today by the alarming quantity of sheep muck he consumed yesterday evening. Delightful creature that he is!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   The moon was there to great us and the light on the oak was beautiful…………………………….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    All in all a grand start to August. the birds are slowly returning.

Goldfinch and the next I was thrilled with as I’ve been trying for a shot of one of these for ages…………….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      A Wren, there are dozens of them around here but they are fast little blighters. This one turned out fine.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The post was blown out so I gave it a quick spray job…………a bit too quick now I look again. Smashing little thing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Giant Bellflower.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARed Campion, a wild guess……..Help!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Greater Burdock, says I full of confidence………Probably full of misplaced confidence! The last three were taken a couple of days ago. Thanks once again to Phil at CABINET OF CURIOSITIES For identifying the Giant Bellflower. After all that I pray it’s the same damn plant.

That’s all for today. I’m thinking of visiting the Otter sanctuary at Bowes tomorrow and then on up to Tan Hill. We should be back here at the weekend as there’s much more to see and do.

  2. It's certainly the best time of day, isn't it Adrian. I was up about the same time; without the flatulence though. Well, just a little. lol

Morning light really is the best. Yours was better than mine though.
And your little Wren, looks like a little Robin.....juvenile. ;)

  3. Petrus Thanks.

Keith now you mention it it does have a Robin look about it and would explain how I managed not two but half a dozen pictures.....Obliging things are Robins. back to Wren hunting! Best dawn light we've had in ages.

  4. Lovely shots Adrian. I agree with Keith, the Robin, it is a little larger than a Wren.

  5. Bob thanks, not to worry about it as I have no shots of young Robins. Explains why the place is knee deep in them.

  6. Seems to have been a day for getting up early as we went walkabout at 5 a.m.. No lovely morning sunshine here though - just dull and overcast.

    Great shotofo the Goldfinch.
