DERBYSHIRE TO DURHAM (21/08/10)

Now I really wish I hadn’t written this title. I can’t get rid of  the Roger Whittaker song, it is on a continuous loop in my head………….damned annoying. I’ve tried the usual remedies, singing Two Little boys and virtually the whole of Cliff Richards back catalogue. It’s a good job I only have the dogs for company.

Yesterday we left Derbyshire and headed north to County Durham. We have stopped for the weekend between Barnard Castle and Darlington. Below are a few images from our last day in the peak District.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Wriggley tin sheds.

Looking down into the dale…………and finally the viaduct yet again………twice again.

Yesterday we called for a shop in Darlington, cleaned the truck as we were expecting visitors for supper and then had a wander by the Tees river. Not much to show you but here is what there is.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Mare’s Tail, not something I’ve seen at home, reminds me of Jurrasic Park.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI think this is Policeman’s Helmet. The white tailed Bumble Bee crawls right inside. Here it is reversing out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Winston Parish Church. I’m off to have another look at it today.

Finally because it was coolish out and i was waiting for some sunshine I’ll post another ‘Just because I can Doesn’t mean I should.’

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Sheep in shift focus.

Tomorrow with luck and a following wind I am being given a lift to Hawes. Among it’s other claims to fame it is the home of Wensleydale Cheese and the one hundred foot Hardraw falls. The latter have to be accessed through the public bar of The Green Dragon Inn, so don’t be expecting the pictures to be too sharp.

Have a good weekend.

  1. Love the 'looking down on' shots. Don't get much opportunity for those in Lincolnshire.

  2. Beautiful scenery there Adrian.
I do like the B&W viaduct shot; lovely bit of editing.
Policeman's Helmet, hmmmm. I only know it as Indian Balsam, but I quite like your name for it lol
And the sheep; clichéd, but effective ;)

  3. John, Only from church towers and the steps inside them can be the very devil...excuse the expression.

Keith it is grand a used to think it was a little soft when I was there all the time. The B&W is rescued. Indian Balsam it is, we always called it PC Helmet as kids. Amazing a Bee can crawl in.
Am thinking of introducing 'A Just Because.' Slot from time to time. This one is Photoshop but I've done them in camera using second curtain flash.....Fun to play.

  7. Nice varied selection of bridges. Like the focusing on the sheep.

  8. Gaz stunning on a small scale, it's good one doesn't have to walk miles for a new vista.

Wind thank you, glad to have you along.

JoLynne, we aren't, as a rule, short of water. The sheep a five minute job....been better with a ten minute job.

J on Tour, the shift focus is P'shop but it can be achieved in camera, the latter is a bit hit and miss.

  9. The countryside shots are lovely. Does it really look so "gentle"?
The sheep made me laugh. Back in the days when I used to work day in, day out with sheep I would close my eyes at night and see sights like that!

  10. Pauline, this corner of it does, when one can see through the rain or mist.
The sheep like HDR are just for fun.

  11. You'll love the creamery! One tip, if you eat in the restaurant and they have the Wensleydale and Ginger Cheesecake on the dessert board, order it. It's probably one of the best deserts I've ever had. If it isn't on the menu or you don't have lunch don't despair -- I've blogged about the cheesecake before including the recipe!

  12. Mark thanks, will look up the recipe. The day, as mine have a tendency to do, got well sidetracked. Half a ton of pictures to sort so not wasted. I will be back to Hawes.
