WYE AND WEIR (10/08/10)

Up and out this morning to take advantage of the very flat light…………….bet you never thought to hear me say that…………The object was to get some shots of the weir on the river Wye in Monsal Dale. Flat light is good for waterfalls and weirs, about the only thing it is good for.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Three views of Monsal Dale, if you look carefully at the second almost dead centre there is a rock formation known as Hobbs House. This is home to a genial giant who in exchange for a bowl of cream will thrash your corn.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA        OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANow a couple of views of the Monsal Head viaduct. Not the longest, tallest or most impressive in the country but never the less still worth a look.

Now the object of this mornings outing…………………………………

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Well worth an hours wandering, for once I’m reasonably satisfied with these. As I said overcast is good for waterfalling……let us hope it is as good for ‘falling down water’ as that is next on today's agenda. A shower, a quick polish up and then a liquid lunch. Assuming I can still stand I am booked for a walk at three this afternoon so it should be an enjoyable day.

I wish you all the very best of Tuesdays whatever you are up to.

  5. Bob Thanks for once I was in the right place at the right time.

Keith, It is a great area. Over the years have taken loads of this weir and binned loads.
Walk went well and surprisingly steadily. Found a wonderful water vole which I will share today.

  6. These are wonderful landscapes, there's a lot of "depth" to them.

  7. Dawntreader, it helps that you can get a near aerial perspective and with early morning light it makes it difficult to fail.

  10. Oh I've been here! It's a lovely walk, isn't it? I didn't get any pictures when I was there, as it was pouring rain almost the whole time, so it's lovely to see it in better conditions.
