THREE DAYS. (24/10/13)

I’m have been on the Castle Howard estate for three very wet days. There is no internet connection but given a bright day it would be an interesting place to wander with a camera. I am coming back for a few days next Monday.

Last Monday.

_MG_1968       Mallards being naughty. I went out with Bertha to get some pictures of Moorhen. I popped a couple of handfuls of seed down and all I got were these two arguing over a seed. Silly birds.

_MG_1956

_MG_1957 This is the estate sawmill which is now redundant. I was hoping to get a look inside. No luck so far and I suspect the old machinery has been sold for scrap.

_MG_1954 This is Castle Howard looking across the Great Lake. That was Monday.

Here is Tuesday.

_MG_1958  A little light on the water. Tuesday is a write off.

Wednesday I walked down to Castle Howard as the rain was forecast to stop or at least ease.

_MG_1995_6_7_fused

_MG_1992_3_4_tonemapped  Castle Howard and the Prince of Wales fountain. It depicts Atlas with the World on his shoulders. It is an impressive piece in an impressive place.

1957messed  There is lots more to show. I’ve popped some images into the wood shed.

That’s all for today, I’ll see to some more images and post them tomorrow.

    1. Carol, it ought to be cooler. I had plenty of time whist watching the rain.

    2. Carol, find a building with thirty one windows. Pop an image in each. Then give each a mouse roll over....Hey presto! A digital Advent calender. You have a few weeks when you work out the HTML code for mouse roll over let me into the secret of going back to blank windows without cheating and pressing F5. If your students are any good at all they will be able to write code to open only one window per day. There is a challenge for them.

    3. You is the IT Programmer....Earn your keep Maam. I'll have a go and post it but Python is way beyond me. It's hard to work let alone compose or god forbid modify.
Do your students have ARDUINOs? They are great for giving headaches. They are programmable in C++ and something else mixed in.
I just wish that you lot all spoke the same language. Python seems the most powerful. HTML is easy but I am never sure where to put it........The story of my life, I get adventurous and fail.

  2. That really is an impressive place Adrian. The fountain is superb; both the fountain and picture.

    1. Keith, I'll ask Dithery for some help from his help to buy scheme. I wouldn't mind restoring the old wood yard.

  3. I had to google Castle Howard. Honestly I like your pictures at least as much as the ones on the "official" site. Your picture of the fountain (the second one) is much better. It's a pity about the sawmill. The picture of the lake with the castle in the far background is just great!

  4. David, I am lucky to live and travel a country that has seriously good opportunities for pictures. The light varies. I was struggling so reverted to HDR. I'm not happy with it anymore as a medium. I am going back. With a tripod and filters to do it properly.

The House isn't really a castle but it is a superb building.

  9. HI Adrian Sorry you have so much rain that you were not able to get out much. The Castle is VERY impressive and I love the shot (no 4) of it across the lake and the fountain is gorgeous also.

    1. Margaret, it is a grand place but like Ireland the cameras have to be water tight. It's going to be worse on Monday but at least it's been dry today. The roof and every window is open drying things off.

  13. Like the mallards fighting, very silly birds. I like the look of the castle but really enjoyed the fountain images, it looks like a very nice sculptre, perhaps the owner of the sawmill should have a look at your last image, the windows would like nice with some sepia like images of the mill in it's hayday

The mill would be great restored as a museum. I'll suggest it.

  19. The weather hasn't been good recently for photography although I got some half decent silhouettes in Hartlepool last saturday. It's great to see what you've done with that grim sky and a bit of art to the possibly empty sawmill … you could start a trend. Love the fountain shot.

  20. Jay, there have been some good days. If I could write an HTML script I would like to do an advent calender with mouse roll overs to open the windows.
