SOUND. (12/03/16)

This is a test post to see if sound works.

This has possibilities, SoundCloud is painless to use I am just sorry the same can't be said of my audio. I apologise for being boring but this winter I decided to attempt to get to grips with all the software I have. I feel I have had a few successes but more failures.
Enjoy your weekend.
PS. As some of you may know I switched to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago and have had a few minor problems. Whilst editing the sound for this I couldn't get my earpieces, I don't have headphones, to work. I started messing and lost all sound. Turned out they weren't plugged in all the way but could I find the old Windows Control Panel, took me ages. I then thought it must be there somewhere obvious and it is, along with all the other gumph like My computer. Just right click on the start button and all is familiar. I have to watch my SSD drives as they are only 250GB each..I know but they were dirt cheap and the big ones were a fortune. I can find them under settings but it is a long roam around to get there.
I have to use earphones when editing birds tweeting as the ones outside the van also tweet and it muddles me up. Birds don't know the meaning of Shut Up.

  1. Far from boring Adrian I think you've started some interesting projects thus winter some of which the technical aspects have left me totally baffled.
I can really see a dawn chorus project in the making

    1. Douglas, now I just have to get my act together with all this half knowledge. I did think of trying for the dawn chorus this morning but it started raining and the dogs were whinging to go out for a walk. I'll have a look on eBay or Amazon for a shotgun Mic.

  2. Adrian, is that squirrel stuffed? It's not moving. But I love the birdsong.

    1. Frances, it isn't a video, It is just a still image. I didn't need to have an image but thought why not and this was the first I came across.

    2. I know. It was a kind of joke. Not funny, though, was it?

Not to self: must try harder.

    3. That should read "note to self" of course. Apologies.

    4. Sorry Frances, I was suffering a sense of humour failure. I'd just got the dogs dryish when Molly came back having rolled in hen crap. Filthy little beast.

  3. Love the audio. So many bird sounds and your voice is mellow.

Patience with the squirrels. It will be worth it.

    1. Thanks Marie, I suspect the mellowness is a combination of editing and Marlboro.

  4. Neat video! I am at odds with windows ten at the moment. None of my videos work anymore. I can't edit or do anything to them. I just have thrown my hands up in the air.

    1. Terri, I edit video in either Photoshop, Fusion or Blender, the latter are free. I've not had this problem if you go to ALL APPS you should find a free video editor, it will be linear. I know there is a converter but it has to be enabled. Email me and I'll have a look and send you some screen grabs. I am amazed how intuitive it is. This isn't video it is just an MP3 sound track.

  5. I think I shall get a birdsong CD. This makes me realise just how little birdsong there is on Lewis (as opposed to bird calls) and how different it is here in NZ.

    1. Graham, most of these are Chaffinch and coaltits. I think. They are just getting back into song after the winter. It does brighten up a morning walk.

    1. Peter, I hated Vista, Windows 7 was the best ever and I suspect that 10 will better it. It takes a while to figure out where everything is and it will probably hammer a Vista machine. I get my laptops built by PCSpecialists. Excellent value for money and they build to your specification. If you aren't sure what you need then they will talk you through the cheapest options.

    1. Bill, it was. I only did it to try and edit it and it is slightly better. than the first one.

  8. Do the dogs look to see who you are talking to when you are taping? I imagine them stopping and looking, then shrugging before saying to each other, "He's at it again!" I enjoy this with the birdsong in the background.

    1. Pauline, I have to be careful not to trigger frantic barking by avoiding words like--------Hello or What have we here.
I used to be embarrassed recording my voice, I probably still should be but what the hell.

  9. I've found SoundCloud a useful place to store files. My only gripe is a lack of volume control on the player.

    1. John, it works well for this. I did look at it before but couldn't get it to work properly. I just use the volume control on my computer.
I was amazed that when I copied and pasted the HTML code into Blogger that I didn't need to re-size the skin or whatever it's called. Maybe I was just lucky, I'll have another look to check.
