IN POSH COMPANY. (04/03/13)

Our Queen is in hospital with a bit of a gastric problem…….I am in the truck with a similar infliction. It was my birthday last Friday and it started then so no campanology for me. I went out for lunch yesterday and managed a couple of pints. It was a good lunch but I wish I’d left it another day.

I feel much better today so after taking the dogs out I went to watch the Rooks nest building. _V0G5626_edited-1 Spring is on it’s way. I found my first daffodils of the year on Friday. Appropriate them flowering on St David's day.

_V0G5663_edited-1  Can you pay attention I’m struggling with a beak full of sticks here?

_V0G5664_edited-1  Are you deaf?

_V0G5666_edited-1

_V0G5672_edited-1     At long last! You can fetch the next lot.

_V0G5678_edited-1     Okay!

How they get a pile of sticks to stop in a tree is beyond me. Looking under the tree at all the reject twigs I suspect it is beyond them as well.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  1. If those are anything like the ones here they will be at least 40' above ground. Big Bertha and operator were working well.

Pleased to see you are on the mend. I find peppermint cordial is good for soothing a grumbling gut.

  2. Cheers John, I like the new pop art avatar.
I'll Have another go at these. I usually have the camera on spot meter but it was on full frame meter so I had a bit of bother.

    1. Grace I am better....no doctors bills for me. Royals cost us a fortune.
Thanks.....I don't celebrate birthdays now. It just seems a maudlin day when all my best friends failed to make it this far. I don't do funerals either I'm saving myself for mine.
It is good watching Rooks there are intelligent birds but their nest building is more miss than hit.

  5. I hope you had a good birthday and that you recover quickly.
Good story and pictures of the rooks. Nest building is a frantic affair.
Daffodils? We're a long way from seeing daffodils.

    1. Red I'm better. the rooks are a pain at times. Pinching food burying it then arguing with their mates who are digging it up. They keep me amused.
All our spring flowers came out over the weekend. Crocus, Daffodil.

  6. That is one amazing fact, the queen of britain is allowed to spend a night in hospital, what about us 'me thinks'.
The Rooks are busy making their nest. Lovely. I'll bet the queen don't know how to make her bed.

  8. Hope the guts are better Adrian. Nothing worse.
The Rooks, and all the Corvids in general, are great builders of nests. The way they seemingly chuck all those sticks together, and finish up with a house, is nothing short of amazing.

    1. It's not too bad Keith. I just have to plan walks around suitable facilities. The pub, the station, the sea wall, the woods..
I love watching them here. Nest building in the trees, burying food in the field watching each other and then digging it up and stealing it....It's a noisy business.

  10. Tuff about the bug. Not a good way to spend a birthday. Not a good way to spend any day for that matter. Good rooking though. Good to see your daffodils seeing as I never see mine. In fact I never see daffodils these days. I miss spring in the UK and then in NZ. Constant summer does have its disadvantages.

Things are looking abit more colourful this last few days.

    1. Glo, many thanks. The rooks are very entertaining. I often get a tameish one but have not encouraged them too much since one ripped my windscreen wipers to pieces.

  12. Now Adrian, let's make things clear...The Queen, gawd bless her, suffered from a gastro enteritis infection....you, poor surf, just had a dose of the good old squits! I hope you've recovered now, but just in case I reckon you should cancel all your public engagements for the next couple of weeks and take a well earned rest!

Perhaps Dithery Dave and his cronies should take notice of those Rooks (or perhaps they have already!) as it would appear that if you just keep heaping chaos on top of chaos something stable and rewarding happens in the end!

Great images of the nest builders at work...[;o)

  13. Trevor all engagements centre around public conveniences at the moment.

I have stopped finding Dithery even remotely amusing. He is a complete bloody idiot and incompetent to boot....he needs the boot.

If I can arrange time in my engagement schedule then I'll have another go at the Rooks.

  14. I like the indignant and then sulky look on the left hand rooks face, and reminiscent of my first wife. Rooks are ugly sods aren't they? Happy birthday by the way!

    1. John. No it isn't. Have to run between facilities or deep cover with a clenched bum......Makes migraine manageable but I'm glad I don't get headaches though....I hates them and toothache.
Rooks are brilliant to watch but always fifty foot up nest building. The pictures are not definitive but I was happy with my hours labour.
I got better with the lens today. Not a one in the bin. The lens has more buttons than the camera.....Multiple choice is the same as no choice at all to old men.
