We wandered up the hill through a forestry plantation this morning. It was a grand walk but the cloud was right down so not a morning for pictures. There is torrential rain forecast for later and it’s blowing half a gale now.
I couldn’t find any deer but did see several fresh tracks and the dogs were in full deer sniffing and looking mode so I didn’t let them loose.Lots of signs but no sign. I’ll keep looking. We also caught a glimpse of an Eagle but a naughty Common Gull chased it into the cloud. I will get some pictures even if it means going to a zoo.
The wild flowers are all starting to bloom.
I will guess at a Wood Sorrell…..don’t take my word for it though.
I at first thought this was some sort of clover but it grows about nine inches tall and looks like some kind of grass. It’s not the worlds best picture but it is very windy.
The Bracken is starting to grow….everything is very late this year………..
This one has done very well………Gruesome More…. Ignore me I’m just a bit daft and although it is awfully dark it isn’t raining so no excuse for a playtime. This selection could do with a bit more work and dexterity on my part but not bad for the fifth go. I could have covered my incompetence by dropping a bit of blur on but that would be cheating.
Any help with identification will, as always, be appreciated.
That’s all for today.
The first flower whatever-it-may-be-called is lovely. The bracken looks like something out of a sci-fi movie (is that the space ship it's coming out of?) :)
ReplyDeleteMonica, I just got carried away. I need carrying away. A long long way away.
DeleteIt is the background. I was concentrating on selection not composition.
Good selection Adrian. Hope you manage a picture of the Eagle; and the Hooded Crows.
ReplyDeleteFirst flower is a Cuckooflower. Also known as Lady's Smock.
Keith, I'm not moving far. Saw a Hooded Crow this morning but it was miles away.
DeleteCheers and thanks for the ID.
I have looked at my I SPY book of all things wild and i look like the 1st flower could beCUCKOOFLOWER also known as LADY'S SMOCK. But it,s a great set of photos.
ReplyDeletepeter
Peter, it is Lady's smock. I've just checked. Thanks.
DeleteAdrian, flower I.D. Cuckooflower/Lady's Smock and Field Wood-rush/Good Friday Grass.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the last one...something alien I think!...[;o)
Trevor. Field Wood Rush. I'll try and remember it. I was close with a grass but not close enough.
DeleteThe last one is Bracken and me being silly with it.
prachtige serie van mooie bloemen.
ReplyDeleteNiet slecht, jammer dat ik heb geen idee wat ik ben op zoek naar.
DeleteNo good as far as ID can be, sorry Adrian, but, I know a person who would know, Trevor! But anyway, they are beautiful weeds, lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob.
DeleteWho would have thought bracken could look so lovely? Plenty probably but not I. The first one is beautiful, too.
ReplyDeletePauline, it looks good when it's new.
DeleteThe last ones look like ferns to me.
ReplyDeleteMaria, ferns they are. These ferns are Bracken...Pteridium aquilinum.
DeleteSome of our native plants are little slow this year. Once our spring came it's been nice .The hours of sunlight are very long now so things grow in a hurry.
ReplyDeleteRed things soon catch up. Fourteen and a half hours daylight here. If the murk I'm sitting in can be described as daylight.
