SUNNY AGAIN. (26/12/13)

I walked north this morning as it wasn’t supposed to be a good morning. I should have gone back and re-shot yesterdays rocks and sunrise. Tonight the wind and rain are set to return but Saturday is forecast to be bright and beautiful.

_MG_2472_3_4_tonemapped    The Harbour Wall Garlieston.

_MG_2466                          Kilfilian Burn. This is the site of an old watermill. The wheel remains but is now fenced off in a private garden. It would be difficult though not impossible to photograph and probably not worth the effort.

_MG_2470 The usual cloud covering the English Lake District.

_MG_2462                                The War Memorial. I could have done with removing the bench but some wee blighter has bolted it down.

_MG_2487_8_9_tonemapped  It’s a grand place for dawn walks. We were accompanied by lots of Wrens, there are dozens about. I’ve not seen the Raptors since the first morning and it’s a bit cool for sitting about waiting for them. Carrying bertha and a tripod would keep me warm so I will give it a go before I leave a week tomorrow.

_MG_2491  Pouton Burn. This weir is just thirty feet from the van and was built to provide a head of water for a small sawmill. There are the remains of it but it isn’t at all photogenic.

The weather is still fine so I’m off to do some birding this afternoon.

Have a good day at the sales.

    1. Mersad it is not a bad weather pattern, two days fine, two days storm. Nothing magical yet but it is looking promising. I don't shoot lots of images but find a place with possibilities, let the dogs off their leads and sit and wait for the light. I then spend ages finding the dogs and another hour processing the twenty shots I've taken.

  2. I love how the water looks in 1, 3, and 4. I think number 5 is my favorite but they are all so good! I don't think the bench hurt number 4. That was a good idea shooting the memorial from the side and showing the sea in the background.

Sounds like you've healed up. That's a good Christmas present too.

    1. David it is a very gradually sloping shore here so the water only pops in for a wee while. Benches, litter bins and road signs I could do without. I shot loads, well six, of it.
I'm still on dihydrocodeine, aspirin and the occasional whisky....occasional means half bottle. I am well on the mend though.

    1. Bas, vanavond het weer erger wordt, maar ze zijn snel bewegende stormen zodat het niet lang zou duren.

    1. It's okay here Keith, very frosty but with no wind it was great out. The wind will hit at about nine tonight. Just about in time to welcome our stagger back from the pub. The beer here is shite, I'll try that horrid gassy lager tonight.

    1. Andrew, it's seems to have settled into a pattern of two days fine, two days stormy. I'm heading for the Highlands in a couple of weeks. I hope for plenty of snow and coolcrisp weather.

  7. I really like the last two photos. A view of the bay through the grass is neat. it took some looking to notice that the trees in the last photo are reflections!

  8. hi Adrian. Lovely shots. I love seeing the sunrise through the grass and also the water shot. I am sure the dogs love this area. Looks peaceful at the moment.

    1. Margaret, it was a perfect day.
Anything shot through grass is a bit clichéd but so are sunrises.

  9. Excellent Decembery pictures Adrian. The light can be so delicate at this time of year. Don't they have Boxing Day sales in Garlieston then? What are you doing traipsing around the countryside when you could be at Meadowhall securing bargains?

    1. YP, yes the light does have a magical quality in winter.
There are two shops both could do with a sale.
I am never going near Meadowhall again. My wife insists Trafford Park is quieter. She tells fibs.

  10. I'm with Red. I like the grasses.
For the first time in my life I went to the mall on boxing day. Ye Gods! I picked up a mirror that would be nice in the spare room - 40% off, and realised I'd have to spend the next hour in the line that snaked around the whole shop. I put it back.

    1. Graham, I suspect I'm here at the best time of the year. I imagine that in summer it could be oppressive.
I'll take a wander round the village. It isn't particularly pretty but it has an honest feel to it.

  13. The weather is so much better in Galloway than it is in the Lakes, don't know why I haven't been for such a long time.
