TOO FAR AWAY. (13/03/15)

I have next to nothing to post but it seems a long time since I posted and lack of material has never deterred me in the past so this is the story of my week. I’ve been rained on and blown on and everything I’ve seen has been too far away. The Goldeneye are back after the floods but I can never get close enough for a good picture. The Red Squirrels have woken up and are rushing to the tops of trees.

BIRDSMAMMALS&INSECTS               I have been playing with six of these icons. This is a draft waiting approval. It needs a bit of cleaning up but the method appears to be working. This is a PNG file but the ones I’ve converted to ICO extensions seem to work, I click on them and they display images, maps, pub menus and landscapes as a slide show. I hope another eight hours or so will see the job up and running as a small information centre. I would like to protect the files behind the icons so that folk can’t tamper with them and then provide an area for people to upload their own photographs or text. I suspect that is a job for a qualified IT person, not that I have any real confidence in most of the IT persons I’ve met. Any suggestions will be received with gratitude. I also noticed whilst running a mock up this morning that the old PC it is intended to run on only has a 25GB hard drive. I can see a bit of serious file compression on the horizon. I don’t know how I used to manage, a time lapse sequence can easily run to 50GB prior to compression and now we are looking at 8K video. Thank heaven that external drives are affordable and massive.

_MG_2860    I found this fungus growing on an old gate post. This was the biggest at about 15mm across. It appears as a blob then flattens and turns out at 90o . It’s a new one for me and I’ll take the macro lens to it tomorrow.

I apologise for posting more questions than answers today. Have a great weekend. The forecast is for dawn till dusk sunshine over the weekend and a week today we have an eclipse to look forward to. It will be thick cloud then with rain or snow.

  1. I love that cheeky Red Squirrel...you'll have to try and entice it out to play!

Have you got to do the photographs for the info project?...a big job!

I think your fungus is a baby bracket...going by the light coloured margin I would plump for Turkeytail (Trametes versicolor)

Have a good weekend and enjoy the sunshine...[;o)

  2. Trevor, The squirrels are wee buggers.

I have several good pictures. I would like a better Otter and a decent wild goat.

I agree with fungus. I wish it to be something posh. No chance.

  3. Yet again I shall have to pass on the questions raised, sorry. Loving the Red Squirrel, don't get disheartened with Goldeneye they're one of the hardest duck to get near. Can't wait to see what the final finished project looks like

    1. Douglas, I think I'll settle for little black and white dot Goldeneyes. They are the very devil. I go up one bank then they swim to the other. When I get to the other they take off to god knows where. Bob doesn't have this problem at Slumbridge.

    1. Bas, I have a pot of honey, nuts and raisins. I will paste it on the tree and catch it unawares.

  5. I have heard of "Spot The Ball" competitions but not Spot the Squirrel. No matter how hard I looked at the first picture I couldn't see even the slightest sign of Squirrel Nutkin - unless of course that was a pile of green squirrel shit in the middle.

  6. Get your climbing boots on and get up the tree after the little sod, great to have them about.

  7. Posting isn't the be all and end all of life. You've been creating complicated stuff again. I'm sure that taxing your brain like this will prevent you from ever getting dementia. Have a great weekend.

    1. Raffaela, I find all creatures illusive.

Today I start loading the information. I can see me muttering a lot of bad words.
