CLOSE TO HOME. (07/05/15)

It’s a funny day today, it’s sunny but not very warm and we even had a shower of hail whilst waiting for the ever elusive Jay. I have three shots of it but they were all mostly twig and to cap it all one was a wood pigeon. I must need new specs.

After breakfast, what a treat it was today, bacon, egg, fried bread and black pudding. I really should go shopping more often. Glenrothes is very good for shopping as I can park on the road equidistant from Aldi and Morrisons. The bulk of stuff I get in Aldi where the speed of the bar code reader always amazes. Then across the road for bits that Aldi don’t do or do more expensively like cereals and tobacco. Tonight it is Jersey Royal potatoes, roasted peppers with onion and chicken done with paprika and wild garlic in a roasting bag. Spoilt and fat I’ll be. I used to look forward to Jersey Royals but must admit they don’t seem to taste all that special these days.

All todays pictures were taken within a few yards of the camper. No creepy crawlies I promise._MG_3495_6_7_tonemapped

_MG_3501_2_3_tonemapped

_MG_3504_5_6_tonemapped

_MG_3507_8_9_tonemapped       All images were processed in Photomatix, given a final polish in Photoshop and shot on a tripod with cable release. The lens is the 24mm Canon TS-E with a 2 stop ND Grad filter on. This lens is wonderfully sharp corner to corner but the tilt movement isn’t quite fine enough, it’s also difficult to adjust even in live view; it’s great tethered to the laptop but it takes two to tango with that set up. The shift movement is great for quality panoramas but I forgot to do any today. I usually only use it for postcard or print and I do precious little of that. I really ought to make an effort and make it earn a bit of what it cost.

All Images will enlarge with a click as usual.

    1. So do I but they take ages to move and can make or break an image. I didn't wait today.

  2. Nicely tweaked without looking gaudy.

    1. John, Photomatix is always my first choice for HDR. It has come from pavement pizza effects to near perfect. Adobe have HDR in Photoshop but it is rubbish, depressingly so.
I still drop saturation in PS and re saturate a bit here and there. I also push strenght within a gnats whisker of haloing. I like HDR to look like HDR.

  3. Farms are fascinating places aren't they? Well I think so. Thank you for the look around Adrian.

    1. This one is purely arable so without the hens it would be a bit boring. It's better than a town by a country mile.

    1. Bob, it is a wonderful lens. I wonder what it would be like with extension tubes on. I'll have a go.

  5. Looks like you found a good spot, and not exactly tourist season yet :) The dogs actually manage (just from their 'body language') to look reproachful about being left on the other side of the fence...

    1. Monica, if I am away too long they can wriggle under the gate. Well Molly can.

  6. You haven't posted a cooking post for a long time. You're camped in a great area that's off in the country.

  8. Is that an old Bedford camper van in the barn? I'm confused about the Jersey spuds. Are they definitely Jersey grown? I only ask as I've been seeing so many supermarkets advertising them I was wondering how the island was able to meet demand, either the mass production has effected the quality or they're producded under licence here in the UK. There is a difference in the quality of the spuds in the supermarket and the ones I've had on the island.

    1. Douglas, it's on an old Transit chassis.
The potatoes are probably from Egypt. I won't bother with them again unless I can be sure they are from the Channel Islands.

    2. Douglas I just had a look on the Aldi bag and it says grown in Jersey.

    3. Give over Adrian! How can you grow plastic bags? It's not possible.

  9. You're so right about Jersey Royals. They're not at all what they were. So disappointing.

    1. Frances, I don't know what happened to them. They are not worth the premium price Anya are a good taste when available.

  10. Okay, I will just come right out and say it...Have you perchance got a problem with body hygiene Adrian? Only all the other camper vans and caravans appear to have left the site and you are now on your own! Try "Lifebuoy" and a big splash of "Brut".
One of the mysteries of Jersey Royals is how come a little island in The Channel can produce enough new potatoes to stock every supermarket in the land for about three weeks each year? That is one hell of a lot of small potatoes.

They must grow the damn things on shelves, very tall shelves.
