ORVILLE (26/06/11)

I wish I could fly right up to the sky……………but I can’t* and neither can I have this. I’m thirty years too old and am not a millionaire. What do you think I’ve fallen head over heels in love with…………….Here it is ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Not the thirty thousand pound Super Bike replica……..just a beautifully customised Ducati. I tell you I was all of a dither and twitch with lust and desire.

We were out this morning at six in thick cloud…………the Met office had warned me to beware of heat exhaustion, sun stroke and bubonic plague so I'd covered my head, applied factor fifty sunscreen and wrapped a hanky across my nose and mouth. The epitome of sartorial elegance! I forgot my waterproof over trousers so came back two hours later a touch damp. It’s Sunday so cooked breakfast day, no sooner had I started the sausage than out came the sun. C’est la vie. That’s French for Bugger!

Out again after a good fry up and what did we find?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   A Chicken a few weeks old chicken. Bear with me here it gets better……….not a lot but better!

A Golden Plover…………..there are plenty about this year but they are wary birds.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA        What is this? I know it’s a Veined White but could it possibly be a Black Veined White………..Go on. Give me the benefit of the doubt. I doubt it, as they have been extinct in the UK for ages. It still doesn’t look like the Green veined I’ve seen before.

Back to motor bikes……………..I had endless choice today for summer has arrived. I’ll stick with Harley Davidson a somewhat pedestrian and agricultural means of transport but they do sound wonderful.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     A much modified early hard tail.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Similar but converted to have rear suspension……………………WHY?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     The Military issue model a new one for me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Lastly a new one…….I love eccentrics and the owners of these tick all the boxes.

That’s it for today…………..I’m off out to frighten the natives with a spot of sunbathing. Dogs are tired so no problem there.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Molly doing what she does best………Alfie is flat on his back as well.

*Orville was a famous green duck…well a ventriloquist’s doll owned by a bloke called Keith Harris. ………………Google it yourself!…. I know it’s about to rain so I have to go.

Have a grand week.

  1. What a treat for the eyes.
I'm guessing you're at Tan Hill?
And I'm so envious of those Golden Plover shots. Such beautiful birds.
Nice selection of bikes, and a lovely shot of the Moll.
Hope the sun is still shining there.

  2. Keith, you guessed right. The plover one has to sit for ages for............ten minutes in this case. The Curlew are equally plentiful but harder to capture. The Merlin forget it. I see it most days but it's at ten thousand feet or at one foot.
It's just about to rain again.

  3. What an inspiration! Love the bikes!
And yes, the Met bureau didn't get it wrong...not as warm as they said it would be but can't be too demanding in the UK...C'est la vie, I agree! :)

  6. Well done with the Golden Plover shots. At least the two wheeled monsters weren't rushing about while you photo'd them.

  7. Wouldn't it be great if it was the extinct Black-veined? I don't think it is though and I don't think you do really but it's nice to dream ;)

Lovely shots of the Golden Plover, not sure I should admit it but I have never seen one!

The bikes don't do anything for me but the mention of the fry up does and as for the photo of the gorgeous Molly :)

  8. Jealous, the Golden Plover. All that I saw the GP, and I mean the grand prix.

  9. Dee Bee, It was a grand day.

Norma, they are very wary whilst breeding on the moor. In winter they change colour and head downhill. They then collect in flocks like Lapwing. Often flying with the latter.

Horst, the Plover is beautiful as are Harleys pity they are so aweful to ride.

John, the plovers are feeding chicks at the moment so if you spot their territory and hunker down they are easy. Lapwing dive bomb me, antisocial birds are Lapwing.

Jan, No it it is a Green Veined. Probably a few hours old as it' was in good condition. This moor around Tan Hill is alive with ground nesters. I should say so but the moor is managed for Red Grouse this makes ideal conditions for Snipe Lapwing and Curlew. The Keepers are also putting food out for the Black Grouse. they are lower down the hill.
Fry ups are for Sundays only..........mores the pity.

Bob, it is a good area for waders in summer. Nearer than Scotland and you can park just off the moor tracks

  10. The Plover bird shots are fantastic as are the bike shots. Molly seems a bit disinterested in it all though !!

  11. Cracking collection of images Adrian. I can't even begin to imagine riding an HD. Brutes if ever I saw one. Mind you the last proper motor bike I rode was a Triumph 500 in the days when they had less power than a Yamaha 125 has today and that wasn't the easiest of things to cope with between your legs.
