AM I A ROBERT? (18/02/12)

I must be because Google are getting really annoying….Annoying to the point where I really feel that blogland is more trouble than it’s worth. I accept the new interface has speeded up a bit but I still feel it’s slow and self indulgent…..like the templates that have a big picture as a desk top background. The comment moderation is now a real pain. I can have up to three goes….after a beer…. two before…deciphering the bloody letters. Then I have to type another word. Please, please disable comment moderation. You will get a bit of spam….some of the spam I get is better than the post I wrote.

Adrian you are a judgmental prick.

Art, that makes two of us at least. Judgement is good. Prick! Your choice of adjective not mine. Have fun.

My only regret is that the correspondence was so limited.

I’ve just realized it says….’Prove you are not a Robot.’….Silly dyslexic me! Ignore the first paragraph.

The weather here is sunny with hail. It’s not nice.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA           Spring is sprung the first lamb I’ve seen this year. It’s a twin but it’s sibling was slow to stand and was being mobbed by three Carrion Crows. I climbed the field wall and stood it up, gave it a rub and  got a good shove in the leg from mum…ungrateful are sheep.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Here it is, it will be fine now. It’s feeding so unless the weather gets really wet it will make some lovely chops.

The clothes are washed, the food is on board so tomorrow I'm away back to Coniston then over the hill to County Durham for next weekend. Internet will be more miss than hit.

Have a good week.

  1. Adrian, I am with you on the blog sphere. Worse for me, I'm a sufferer of a hemmoragic stroke, and it takes a while to do it.
Isn't it nice to be a sheep, lamb chops, mutton etc etc.

  4. I agree with you, and many others, that the new verification process is OTT. It has changed a pleasurable pastime to a chore.

Nice one on the help with the lamb. What did you expect from Ma? A sloppy kiss lol.

  5. Love Johns last bit of his comment! lol

I think these changes are googles way of killing off blogs.
Windows Live effort made so many changes, that in the end a lot of people left; and then it all went over to Wordpress.

  6. Adrian, well done for saving that lamb's bacon!! (well, I thought it was funny!)

    Have a safe relocation...[;o)

  7. Google isn't just making blogging a pain--it's also trying to force us to migrate to Google Plus. Which is too bad, because there are a lot of things I like about Blogger. Glad you helped out the little lamb.

  8. Your posts always make me smile! You put into words what many of us are probably thinking.

  9. I don't think people realise they can disable it Adrian..

  11. Half the problem is knowing that word verification is turned on. I thought it had been turned off on all my blogs for ages, and when replying to a comment on your own blog it doesn't appear. It was only thanks to you Adrian, that I knew to turn it off! Hopefully your post today will make others check their blogs.

If you want to vet posts before they are published then use comment moderation on all posts but turn off word verification. The best of both worlds.

  12. Another amusing post - never stop Adrian - Blogland would be a poorer place. Even though I am totally intolerant of judgmental pricks I will fight for their right to be so. Not that this is to imply that I am intolerant (I can't stand intolerance) or that you are judgmental or a prick. Have I covered all the angles (and saxons).

As for the new WV I have so much difficulty that I just don't comment anywhere near as much as I used to when WV is turned on.

On the new Blogger interface Mark told me how to turn it off and that's what I've done.

  13. I agree with you...It's boring!

  14. Between lopsided glasses (because one arm came off) and WV, I really thought I needed new glasses. OK, I do anyway. But it won't be worth it if I still have to squint at those stupid WVs.
Nice of you to help out the lamb chop or did you just want it for the shot?

  15. I agree entirely about not wanting to see those hieroglyphics when I am trying to comment on a blog; I can't see them and that is before beer or wine.
Love the lamb. Hope you have a good week.

  16. I had to read your first line a second time to appreciate how you were reading "the reason" for WV. Then I laughed out LOUD! Thanks, I needed that.
WV seems to be the current subject for more than a few blogs today.

  17. I agree with you!
It's so frustrating trying to solve those 'spy codes'.
    Have a great week.

  18. I know Adrian, the new Comment Moderator is really a pain, and the 2nd word is a nightmare to read, it takes 2 or 3 attempts but get used to it along with the new interface as the all templates will all eventually disappear! I switched to the new interface at the beginning as I will have had to do it soon or later!!! What we can do is to fill the Feed Back form to moan about it!
Re your lamb: you are a softy aren't you! Well done!
    Hope your week starts well!

    1. I don't think Blogger have ever said that the old (i.e. the ones most people are currently using) templates will disappear any time soon -- if I'm wrong a ling would be appreciated.

The new templates (apart from being almost completely uncustomizable) are so processor intensive they aren't suited to many mobile devices or low powered tablets etc. as well as looking horrid. On my machine (which is definitely not short of processing power or memory) they are sluggish and a pain. I certainly won't be switching out of choice. In fact I hate them so much that I wrote a small script to stop me having to view them in use on anyone else's blog!

    2. Thanks Mark....as always the 'Small Script' works like a dream in Chrome.

    3. DeeBee, I don't think it will disappear. It matters little at the moment as Marks tweek for chrome works fine.

    4. Good to hear it's working well in Chrome. I did test it but not as thoroughly as I did in Firefox.

  19. hehehhe Adrian, I tought the same because to put in in this box these letters and number ... I become always eye hill and you know how we painter used our eyes... but ok i hope I have not his system, have I? in my blog? really don't know, i'm not a expert of electronich

  20. You crack me up, Robert. ;)

I have to agree about word verification. It was only a minor annoyance before but now it's ridiculous. That second grouping of letters is near impossible to read.

  21. This two name thing in word verification has become a hassle :) And they are embossed and intentionally made difficult to read?? Better to get spams - you'd be amazed at the reply I got after a blogger read my rant about the comments post. Cheers, Ruby.

  22. Nice thing you did with the lamb :)

  23. You don't fool me one bit Adrian! I know you added the bit about a lamb chop to try and divert us from thinking you are a lovely, big old softie really...well it didn't work ;-)

I'm with you all the way on the new word verification and have bashed my head against the brick wall that is Blogger twice already by lodging complaints about it.

  24. Everywhere I go in Blogland I run into complaints about the new WV. I haven't come across one single blogger yet who says they love it. I HAVE come across several desperate cries from people who don't know how to turn it off. I think we just have to keep spreading the info about that. Another thing I've discovered is that if I have great difficulties reading the WV I keep clicking the little wheel symbol next to it until I get one that "looks better" to me. I mean before I even try sending the comment. But removed it on my own blogs even before this change took place.
    PS Cute lambs ;)

  25. Hi Adrian, checking on you as you seem to be distancing yourself from Blogland! Hope you are well...i have managed to remove the WV from my blog but it took a couple of days to find out how to do it as there is no setting available in the new interface! Take care and have a good week-end! DeeBee

    1. DeeBee, go back to the old dashboard. Then it's easy. Settings>Comments> and just pick the ones you want.
