THREE WHEELS ON MY WAGON. (12/02/13)

I only have two wheels on my wagon and unlike the Bert Bacharach song I’m not rolling along. I just count my blessings that there are no Cherokees and flaming spears around my ears in Ravenglass. I’d be terrified. Doubly so, if they came mounted on painted ponies.

IMG_0003-1_edited-1  In under a week I have both axles out and ready for shipment tomorrow. I may be too old to do the work now but I can remember how to make coffee for those that can. Light fags for them when their little pinkies are too cold to fire a lighter. Half my working life, on recollection, seems to have been spent wet, very wet, cold or very cold. The other half I was too hot. This job is ahead of schedule. The axles will be collected at eight in the morning. Brilliant service from folk I had never heard of till five days ago. I is a manager.

The weather here has been grim. Really vile and cold. Not chilly and dull in an exciting way just average unpleasant boring weather.

IMG_0007_edited-1  And this.

IMG_0008_edited-1And this…

I purchased a new pair of wellies a month ago…..I am living in them……I also venture out clothed in pants and trousers. Shirt and jacket. I am not mad. I have no wish to emulate the Naked Rambler.

The wellies are not wearing well. The soles have a tread a tractor would be proud of but they are skiddy on slippery stones. I used to get Wellington Boots for twenty pounds. Hogg were the best for mucking out livestock but were no good for riding in. Hunters would fit in stirrups but caused corns and callouses. I purchased MUCK boots this time…..Posh?…..They is so smart I can wear them out to dinner. They are cheapish at seventy pounds. If anyone is interested I’ll take a snap of them.

I have interrupted, my creative prose and annoyed my muse.

IMG_0002-2_edited-1      Here is the welly…..Smart! Nearly as smart as the Levi 501 jeans.

Levis cost as much as a Saville Row suit but last for ever. Levi Strauss have gone back to button flies. I can't for the life of me work them after a pint or two…..Nor can American men they circumcise them to save them getting tangled in jeans zips. I prefer a zip. These jeans are not the elasticated denim that posh totty and other totty that should know better wear. …….I’m thinking I could be a style icon. A bit like Victoria Beckham or Pippa Middleton….What do you think? I wear a pure wool Guernsey jumper on my top half….I’ll practise twirling for the catwalk…I’ll practise doing up buttons…Could have a whole new career in front of me.

Have fun.

  1. Oh oh, that poor old house on wheels, it has lost 1 of them, oh. The price of wellies, I bought a pair, that cost a lot, um £8, everytime I put them on, my tootsies were freezing, I suppose that's happened to like me, and with what amount I paid.

  2. Not the weather for indulging in outdoor mechanics (or photography) Adrian?
I take it the axles are going to be completely refurbed? (I didn't realise the van was FWD!)

I'm sure your twirling would be a lot more convincing if you gave those wellies a bit of polish! and just make sure those buttons are well secured in this cold weather...we don't want you getting frostbite!!!...[;o)

  8. I'll stay away from commenting on your styles a I think I know when I'm out of my depth. Here we call wellies rubber boots. I think Wellies sounds better.

    1. Red Wellies is slang. Wellington Boots are what they are.

  9. Very stylish Adrian. Levi 501's eh? A man of taste. Button flies are so annoying, especially when my hands have been sore and cut sometimes after working, and I prefer the zip, although, painful as catching your foreskin can be, I think the circumsized pain option could be cringeworthy. That was bloomin' fast with the axles!

  13. Button flies are not only difficult with frozen fingers or fuddled brain but on cold windy days they noticeably let the draught in.
