GOOD INTENTIONS. (23/04/13)

Yesterday I left the Tibbie Shiels Hotel and had a pleasant and uneventful journey on the old A7 to Edinburgh. This morning I caught the bus into the city centre and then lost the will to live. I did manage to buy a pair of trousers but never got the camera out of it’s bag.

The following are the last of the images from Cappercleuch.

IMG_0178_79_80_tonemapped     Sunlight before the rain. This is HDR except for the running sheep. I had to pop her back in from a single exposure. Pity I forgot about her shadow. Another example of my Muppetry.

IMG_0185An old Automobile Association Box on the A780 just along the road from where I was staying. It could do with a coat of paint.

_V0G6164       The bridge that carries the road to Tibbie Shiels.

TShielspan A stitched HDR panorama. It was very windy and despite a four stop ND filter I couldn’t flatten the water. Never mind, St Mary’s Loch is a grand place and I’ll definitely be back.

Tomorrow I have a meeting in town but will have time for a wander along the Firth of Forth before I go.

Have fun.

  1. Lovely. I want to be up there with you. I'm surprised the camera stayed in the bag in Edinburgh. As I recall the place (from a mere 43 years ago) it was quite photogenic.
I don't think I've seen an AA box in years and years. I wonder if that is still active or perhaps it's protected.

  2. John, I just get frustrated in crowds. I hate cities...I should look up cityphobia.
There is another one on the way to Hawes. They are listed buildings I believe. This one wants a a lot of TLC.
The Tibbie Shiels my be worth stopping at if you are driving up to Ullapool this year. It is basic but has beer, electricity, running water and WI-FI some of the time.

    1. Chris, strange doesn't start to describe this country. They have supermarkets open twenty four seven except when they are shut. They have a minimum charge foe alcohol but drink is cheaper than England. Then they won't let you buy it before ten in the morning.

I can't work it out either.

      They speak funny as well.

  4. I'm after you Adrian, on my way to the Shetland Isles, wow, on a boat for 12 hours. I love the bonnie Scotland, it is marvelous. So, get me going, to hear the tales that you had, yippee.

    1. Norma the miles I have walked checking sheep! Daft beggars get caught up in fences and bushes and just when you have got out of the bog they avoided, they get themselves free. I send the dogs now.

  11. Okay, I read in the first paragraph about not getting the camera out and then I see all the awesome photos. Then I read some more and the photos are from another day. This is very pretty country you're in right now.

I know what you mean about crowds and cities; hate it all myself too.
That old phone box is a treat. The AA should restore it to its former glory.

    1. Keith, it was grim in town. The box should be restored. The AA must have the funds.

  13. HI Adrian...Love that first one a real beauty!
I think I need to live like you, then I would have to worry about raking, mowing ,and all that stuff !! Suddenly I am all to busy!
If it wasn't for needs I very easily could just stay away from the shopping districts too !!

  16. I don't think I'd have noticed the elongated shadow in the first photo if you hadn't pointed it out... It's a lovely photo. As for the last one, nice to get some proof that the earth is round ;) Impressive landscape!

    1. Monica Hdr is anything from three images in this one to seven for church interiors. If anything moves it has to be de-ghosted. the new software pretty much does it for me. I just select the sheep and it knows which image to choose to pop it back. I didn't select enough. No worries I still have the RAW files so can reprocess.

  17. I’d never have noticed your ‘cobbled’ together pictures. To me they are all splendid.

As for the patron saint of Germany, why, it’s St Boniface. i’d have thought you’d know that :-)
(I just looked it up, Wikipedia says that’s who it is)

    2. PS. I'll look Boniface up. I bet he was another idiot. Do Germans have a St Boniface tag?

  18. I've wandered around (well, perhaps driven quickly through) most of Scotland but despite it being quite a small place with most of the population around the central belt (thank the gods that I can live on an island) there is so much of the detail I have never seen and I expect that following you around I will find lots of new places to visit.

  19. Graham, this was my first time here. It is easily missed when driving north/south. I enjoyed the area but did get some sunshine even if it was very windy.

  21. Edinburgh ?! ... I don't believe I read that here :-) well could be worse, you could either visit a woollen mill for a pair of trousers or failing that ... err ... I'm running out of ideas ... knit some !

  22. Jay, I know it is a good city...Not as good as Glasgow to my mind. They don't seem like proper Bolshie Scots to me and the buildings are all Georgian or falling down. Horses for courses.
