CASTLE AND CREEK (19/10/09)

image  Have moved roughly thirty miles south and am a couple of hundred yards north of a tidal creek next door to a place called Carew. A very attractive camp which I have to myself, there are three collies on the farm so Molly has something to amuse her.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA NEWGALE, ST BRIDES BAY.................Stopped here for a quick............. well why I stopped isn't important. Some beach and it goes as far in the other direction as well. Amazing what one finds when caught short. Serendipity, definitely!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Whilst I sorted out electric and levelled the truck up Molly introduced herself to the locals.

As is my want went for a wander, or hobble as it could be more accurately described, to see what is where and came back impressed. Not a good day for pictures but there are definite possibilities, time will tell what I make of them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    CAREW CASTLE.......The most obvious feature round about, shot into the sun so given a bit of seeing to.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     TIDAL MILL......Be nice to have a look round it, assuming it hasn't been converted into a gift shop.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA These textures took my fancy.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs did this fallen Elm. It may not be an Elm but it never hurts to express an opinion when there is little danger of contradiction....... Most trees that fall over seem to be Elms.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEGRET......Not committing myself further that that. There's a danger I may have gone too far as it is...... Help please!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA GREY HERON, no doubts.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACURLEW.....Just maybe, again help would be appreciated.

Time to get the hide out as these were all the other side of the creek.

Not a bad place to be, selected more on the basis that it was flat than for any other reason.

I will try over the next few days to get some good sharp bird images, that'll be a first, I can hear you saying.

All the best.

  1. Just proved how right I was to give you the award this week. You don't seem to let the weather affect you at all.

  2. CJ Thanks, camera is rain proof, the lap top isn't but it's inside. I should post some before and afters. Probably have to looking at tomorrows forecast.

  3. Looks like you and Molly have found a place of interest. Like the Victorian sepia look on the castle photo. Very apt. Hope the weather hold up for you both.

  4. Hi Adrian. Great shots ...takes me back to a holiday I had in Borth. It rained every single day and I did over a thousand miles that week calling in every little cove from Aberystwyth to St Davids (impressive Cathedral). I think on the last day I ended up at a Butterfly Farm at Solva which if I remember rightly was close to Newgale.

  5. John. The weather, not good high winds, squally showers, with worse to come. Missed a bit in the tide wall I notice. It's called salvage, went out with a long lens and monopod, What I get I get.

Trevor. Yes, am skipping great chunks, but can come back, not knowing anywhere has advantages, scour the OS map maybe have a quick look on the net. Then settle for a day or so. Will head back through this winter, there's no rush.

  6. You have such great buildings over there. Hardly seems fair. I really like that first bird shot-- looks like it's dancing.

  7. I'll look another out Tricia, I've a pair really dancing. We all tend to walk like that in this ooze. There are people, one or two, who don't have houses like these. The miller in medieval time was a very wealthy man. Much dissent and aggravation there was over milling rights.
