KILLING TIME (30/09/09)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Back in Dolgellau and off to Angelsey tomorrow. This site was pretty well devoid of wildlife last week but today a family of Buzzards and several Dragon Flies. I sat for ages waiting for the Buzzards to settle, they did but so far away as to be of no use to me. Then sat some more waiting for the Dragon Flies but they never deigned to come even close. This pony looks as disenchanted as I but we both enjoyed a welcome dose of sunshine.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA         GREY WAGTAIL.........Couldn't get his mirror image as weed got in the way. One of those days!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   These should be three different Buzzards, presumably mum, dad and issue.  I've never seen three at the same time and try as I did couldn't get more than one in the frame. Wonderful birds even if their call doesn't really fit their appearance.

I really enjoy this part of the world and will come back this way when the leaves have turned properly. Sorry about the quality of the Buzzard images, they were too far away however at least they turned up.

  1. That's a lovely shot of the Grey Wagtail Adrian.
Frustrating waiting for the Buzzards to come down, done that many times without success. Still good to see them riding the sky though.

  2. Thanks Keith, yes beautiful birds. One Did settle in a tree not 50m away but on a branch out of view. Sure they do it on purpose.

  3. Great photo of the Grey Wagtail. I wonder why they aren't called yellow wagtails considering the colour.

  4. Lord knows, must be because the Yellow Wagtail is green.

  5. Super photo of the Grey Wagtail (There is already a Yellow Wagtail - that is green and yellow, Midmarsh John). Like the depth of field in the horse shot as well, Adrian.

  6. CJ, I took the time to swop for my favourite prime lens for him. 50mm. Shows my age. Who shoots with prime now? Only a baby poking his nose in everywhere. But settled down to watch a human at work.

  9. Beautiful shots Adrian!!! I love the horse and the Grey Wagtail. Even though you didn't get the reflection of the bird it's still a fabulous shot :)

  10. Not in the sense you mean Bob. There are four or five scattered about all pretty tame. This ones only young.

  12. Very taken with the Grey Wagtail. I don't see many of them. Buzzards on the other hand can be very gregarious indeed. There's a huge colony above the A9 at Blair Atholl and we get large colonies on the West side of Lewis too.

Are the Outer Hebrides on your itinerary?

  13. GB, don't really have an itinerary but was thinking of getting a ferry early spring and driving as far up and down as is possible, I've not checked. I want to be out of Scotland before midge season I dislike them more than I dislike wasps.
