SUNNY DAY. (13/09/15)

Yesterday it rained pretty much all day. This morning dawned bright and cool, there were plenty of new fungi out but the puffballs have not done very much yet. I probably ate too many the other day.

We now have a proper Labour Party leader in the UK. Time will tell if he’s effective. I don’t want to go back to the policies of the Michael Foot era and even if I did they would not be applicable in the modern world. I would like to see senior executives held accountable for the results they achieve and the gambling culture in banking curtailed. Be nice if we could spend some of the defence budget on constructive endeavours and not on destructive ones. I’ll just have to wait and see if his influence is beneficial.

I had a grand walk this morning.

Blue Sky.

A few breezy days and the barley will be ready.

amdecmoll

Molly and Amethyst Deceivers. Every time I lie down to take a picture her nose appears in the view finder. I have tried using my best Anglo Saxon command for go away but all I get is a wet tongue in my ear. I have decided that if she wants to be in the pictures she can be.

pbritgill

Another purple fungus this is Purple Brittlegill. Russula caerulea.

fawnfung

There are hundreds of these. I think they may be Fawn Shield-cap.

noID6

This one I can’t identify but it is an attractive shape.

All the fungus shots were taken with a 50mm lens and a strobe off to one side. I will keep experimenting with lighting as I am not where I want to be yet.

I really shouldn't mention this but I’m looking for another camera. I would like a 500 series Hasselblad preferably a 501CM but unfortunately so would the rest of the old camera world. The alternative is a Rollie 6000 series but not an AF model. In the meantime I’ll go and look for something to snap with the Bronica STR. I have two part rolls of film to finish off but don’t like to waste film or press the shutter for the sake of using it up.

The Canon cameras are great for macro but I don’t love them. I am enjoying a return to film and will start looking for a used scanner and a developing tank…..I mustn’t forget to get a black bag or all my efforts will look as if they been shot on a leaky Diana.

Enjoy your week.

    1. Mersad, you should not be able to see much difference as internet resolution and tone is heavily compressed. I have two rolls ready to go and try and send them five at a time as it saves on postage. Processing is also cheaper if they can scan them all to the same CD. I'll finish off the two rolls of 120 I have loaded in backs and run a roll of 35mm through the Minolta then post a few.

  5. Brilliant to see Molly keeping an eye, or nose, on you to make sure you're not slacking.
I think the penultimate photo is best with its soft foreground and background

    1. John, she never fails to poke her nose in unless she has found something revolting to eat or roll in. I took about twenty shots this morning at various apertures and flash positions all were ETTL. This lens will focus to about half a metre. I'll try it with a bit of an extension tube tomorrow and pop a softbox on the flash.

  7. Interesting post. It covers three very different areas. We need knew leaders who will say things that have meaning and have reasons to back them up. We only have leaders who give the 8 second sound bite. By the way we need new press too.

    1. Red, the sound bite is usually written by someone else.

    1. Linda, they are a bit of a change. Not macro as I usually post it but they do show an attempt at composition.

  11. I can't make up my mind about the barley fields which probably means I'm not very keen on it. Good job we don't all like the same things. However I really like the last photo with the beautiful richness of some of the colours. Molly gives some life and scale to the pic she's in too.

    1. Graham, I don't particularly like it but it was very flat to start with so I thought I'd play for five minutes. Molly is a pain when i find frogs, insects and now fungi. I have told her but it is water off a dogs back.

  12. You're very late with your barley! Ours was harvested some time ago, and we can now canter across the stubble.

I've always been fascinated by fungi, and seeing your photos I could actually smell the leaf mould. Funny things, smells...

    1. Frances, the end of August till the end of September is normal here. It will be a few weeks late. It is ripe but the tops haven't flopped over quite yet. If they don't the thrasher can't get the grain and it comes out with the straw.
The fungi are doing well this year. Were I so inclined I'd make a list of all the different ones . Edible varieties seem scarce here which is a pity.
I don't do cantering, trotting or even walking. I just hold on to the rope and they follow me around. Odd times they skip about but I use the magic words.
      "Naughty Horse."
They make little difference but I feel I've tried to be strict.

  13. Grand images Adrian, I reckon if you train Molly to sniff out truffles you'll be able to get all the techy stuff you need

    1. Douglas, it's a great idea but I can't teach the dogs to sit. I used to have Collies and they were easy to train.....Terriers just please themselves. I go a walk and they are usually somewhere else unless I'm trying to snap something then they are centre frame. If I'm trying to take their pictures they are miles away. Alf is better than Moll at least he appears when I whistle.
