MAMMALS AND MOONS (21/12/10)

After this mornings endeavours we had breakfast thawed out and set off for a walk up Latrigg. I didn’t get half way. A half mile or so from the A66 I had all ready slip slidied over twice and it’s worse going downhill so we stopped at a place called Ewe How……Also stopped at a place called George Fisher on the way home and purchased, at vast expense, a pair of spikey feet…..Knew I would have to bite on the bullet eventually……Food parcels gratefully received. No meat please after watching the moon being eclipsed by us this morning I think I may have turned into a Vogan……………(The Eagle Comic and Dan Dare if I recollect correctly.)

Wandering up through Latrigg Woods we happened upon a Red Squirrel. Drop dead beautiful they are but unfortunately regarded by Terriers as prey. They quick sticks shot it up a tree. Daft mutts as they are shot it into the sun and by default so so did I. I’ve put a wee circle round it to save you time looking…..A record shot……….A Cliff Richard record shot.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA       Nothing astounding to see from todays stroll. A few views of Grisedale Pike, Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater, and some other Pikes, Riggs, Fells, Bells and Latters…… Hills to thee and me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Keswick and the bottom end of Derwentwater.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABeing a bit Arty Farty here. Trying to line this mini gorge up with the Newlands Valley……………..It doesn’t. He should not have rested on the seventh day. If a jobs worth doing it’s worth doing right!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   These are the same views but zoomed  in a bit….Whinlatter and hiding in the gap Bassenthwaite it has a dab of mist on it. Even if todays images are not of the best I’m not crayoning over all my pictures. For those that don’t know there are Osprey breeding on Bassenthwaite……Not now! You have to come in summer, they fly away in the winter.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This one sort of fills the gap….Derwentwater mid left. I couldn’t do what I set out to do as trees got in the way so no monster panorama. A good walk nevertheless.

Nearly forgot, a polished up Moon being eclipsed by us…………’Every day Is a Winding Road’…..Rarely are they boring.

Tomorrow it’s polish the truck, shopping, a new front tyre or two and stow everything anyhow……..I meant neatly….Ready for a move to Ravenglass on Thursday.

You can’t tell but I think I’m turning into a Touchy Typist……………I can type…… BbAssenThHWwaithe.. without hardly looking at all….!

  1. By a coincidence I was talking to an acquaintance last night about memories of youth and The Eagle cropped up and we both tried to out-remember the other for characters from it (I lost - memory isn't my thing) however I think the Vogons were from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the Mekons were from The Eagle. Right I shall now go and read/view the rest of your posting.

  2. BbAssenThHWwaithe.. rather defeats the spillchucker too. I have similar pribloms.

I just want to get home and start going through all my old photos of The Lakes in the snow. One day.... In the meantime I'll have to sit here drooling over yours with the ranch sliders open and the morning sun and 28℃ on the deck to put up with. Give me a trip to George Fisher's any day (yeah right). Mind you in my case in this instance it would actually have been cheaper!

  5. Graham, it is hard work. it is also just brilliant. I meant VEGAN....The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is still one of my favourite books. Dangerous Davies the Holistic Detective was equally good a sad loss.
PsS. SpillChucker struggles with most of my text that's co I'm anorexic.

Jolynne, I don't really worship solstices. It's just a story..........or lies... I dream up whilst posting. Happy whatever you believe in to you.

Keith, there are beautiful areas everywhere. This is a winter venue. The landscapes aren't that good...The landscape does most of it on it's own.

  6. The first two landscapes are Magnificent. I'm sitting here thinking that the last three look pretty special too. I can see why winter has an attraction for you in these ones because the green fields of summer would probably make it look quite ordinary.

  7. Jay, in summer one has to be out very early or last thing.....The snow helps but the long shadows are the icing on the cake.

  8. A real winter wonderland. Love your shot of the lunar eclipse. I'm so glad I saw it, because in my photo it looks like it was in outer space!

  9. Pauline, it is made of cheese and it is in outer space.

  10. Great pictures, but its a well known fact that wildlife will always get between you and the sun, or arrive as you are changing batteries.

  11. Anonymous, too true wildlife also hops round the blind side of trees just as one presses the shutter.
