BARKING MAD. (01/04/15)

Before I get into the barking business I’d like to thank everyone who made an effort to Identify the Wagtail. With your help and much ploughing through images on the internet I have decided it is……………………………………………..

_V0G7733     A Pied Wagtail in it’s first winter plumage.

Now here is the bark.

2015-04-01-17.23.52 ZS PMax      A Tiny Island.

2015-04-01-17.18.47 ZS PMax       Another bit of it.

2015-04-01-16.31.53 ZS PMax       And one more.

Despite hours of work these leave a bit to be desired but they look better than the lump of bark.

_V0G7835     This is the piece of bark it measures 140mm across it’s widest dimension. I then popped it on a front surfaced mirror and focus stacked about fifteen to twenty odd images for each view using Zerene and finished the job off in Photoshop.

They are different but I’m not sure they are worth the effort. It is one way to start a new month. Have a great April.

  1. You well could be right about the Wagtail, as I said I would not put money on that ID yesterday. These other shots are fantastic

    1. Margaret, I have compared it to several images and assuming the ID on the images is correct then that is what it is.

  4. I like the presentation of the bark Adrian but was worried you'd gone to fairy land when you said you were going into the barking business. :-)

    1. Douglas, I blame the weather. I just start to think it's turning out nice and it sleets, rains, hails or snows.

  5. The bark photos are absolutely amazing Adrian. They give us an idea of a world that we just look at with a cursory glance and do not really see. I shall start looking at micro life with a new approach.

    1. Graham, it is worth taking a magnifying glass on a walk. Your camera on macro setting will do a better job than mine as the depth of field will be much greater.

    1. Terri, it is also very silly. It kept me amused for several hours.

  7. Barking mad indeed! I think you might be able to get some strong medication to keep you on an even keel Adrian!

    1. YP, I blame the lack of falling down water. I have an idea for an improvement but it will take some jiggling as the flash has a nasty tendency to reflect in the mirror.

  8. Well, okay, that's a good effort for April fools day. I liked going through your photos and seeing that it was going to turn out to be a piece of bark. Nicely done.

    1. Red, the day was just coincidence I can be a fool at any time. There is room for improvement, if such a thing can be improved.

    1. Cloudia, I wish I could have caught one of the tiny creatures that were scuttling around. Bright purple they were but they moved too fast.

  10. We'll tick that off as a Pied Wag then?

I really like the shots of the bark, that's a great effect with the mirror, maybe a little photoshoppery to blend in the 'join' and you'd have a fantastic set of images.

And look at what's going on on just that tiny piece of bark, an amazing mini world!...natures a wonderful thing.

    Barking mad?....noooooo!...[;o)

    1. Trevor, yes as Keith decided it's a Pied Wagtail.

I will try for a better bit of bark.....It's all just fun and passes the time on a miserable day.
