What a grand day, mild, sunny and a gentle breeze. After settling in, checking and finding no internet connection, we took ourselves off for a walk.
All that's missing are leaves, it could be summer. We walked from St Keverne or just outside it down to the sea at Porthoustock. A picturesque little place which having two quarries one working the other disused I found refreshing in an area where tourists call the tune.
Remains of storage bunkers and the old quarry to the right.
Ships at anchor off Falmouth, at one time this was a major bunkering port and the bay would have had a dozen or more ships waiting to take on fuel. I suspect these are just waiting for a cargo.
The white blob on the far shore is the lighthouse on St Anthony's Head, this is a sector light to guide ships into Carrick Roads off Falmouth. It shines three beams of light one red, one white and one green. If you see red you turn right, white you keep going as you are and green turn left. Designed to stop ships denting the shore!
Picture postcard pretty, but enough industry to make the place feel lived in. There are a load more pictures from today so I'll do a part two with them.
They are good pictures of the sea, ships, trees and thatched cottages. Really nice.
