SEAL OF APPROVAL (11/11/10)

Yesterday we crept out for a spot of birding not in any great expectation of finding any thing but for respite. Sorting a new computer is a frustrating and mind numbing experience. We are just about back to normal, programmes installed and all seems to be functional.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA       These are not birds but a couple of the dozens of rabbits around here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis Magpie hangs around the van for most of the day and is included for Pauline at THE PADDOCK for providing so much amusement a few weeks ago. Go and have a look Flags I believe one of the posts was titled. British Magpies are rather timid birds, not at all like their unruly cousins down under.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  We eventually meandered as far as the river Tees. The dogs beat me to it so that was the birds gone from my side of the river. What is this………………….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A Seal and a handsome beast it is. I’ve never seen them this far up the river before so a welcome sight.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     A gull a juvenile Common Gull I think.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      A Grey Heron taking refuge from the dogs on the far bank.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     A Cormorant beating a hasty retreat. I don’t know why as neither of the dogs take any notice of birds……..past experience has convinced them that they are impossible to catch.

That’s all for today. If the rain stops then we will try for some more pictures later.

  1. I'm not going to attempt an ID of the gull; I'm hopeless with those; they all look the same to me. lol
Must have been great seeing the seal.

  5. Thanks for the magpie, Adrian. I don't know if I would have recognised it as such. The general shape of the head is the same but ours have a light coloured beak which is longer (and sharper). Ours also have white on the back of the neck and around the wingtips. Must say, yours does look more docile. The good news is the fiend has gotten over his vendatta on the girls. So all is quiet (or as quiet as it can be with three chatting girls) at the bus stop until next year.

  6. Pauline, it was good while it lasted, not that I wish the children harm. Funny around the same time a lady blogger from Ireland was being terrorised by a sheep.

  9. Wind, thank you it is the best.

Dawntreader, the river Tees is still tidal here so no problem for them.
