Saturday was a great day. The earlier part of the week was a total write off. Rain, wind, sleet and hail disgusting it was. The sun came out yesterday and temperatures fell to freezing.
I am just outside Coniston in a little hamlet called Torver. I have no internet so posts will be a bit hit and miss, mostly miss!
Life could be a whole lot worse. I’m parked at the rear of this wonderful pub. Good beer, good food and some of the finest company one could imagine. It has WiFi…..sometimes. I’ll try and find a sometimes and get this away today.
St Luke's is right next door so at a pinch if the Church House Inn runs out of beer I can try for some spiritual guidance here.
The Old Man of Coniston……In an hour I’ll take the dogs and see how hard the snow is. It only fell over the last two days and so is probably too soft for the dogs to manage.
Lake Coniston from Torver Jetty. Looking north.
All in all a wonderful place. I’m here till mid week then hopefully I’ll get up to Keswick. Then it’s back here.
I’ll try to do some catching up if I can whip their router into order.
Have a great week…..I’ll see you as and when I can.
Pleased to see you've landed on yer feet again lol. Pleasant hostelry and capital scenery.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of images & incredible use of the light. I've never had the opportunity to see snow on the Old Man before ... memorise of being up there in just July last year but it seems like years ago now. Torver sounds like the quiet end, maybe I should have a day of relaxation here sometime.
ReplyDeleteFantastic set of pictures Adrian.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you've made it to a great location.
That fire looks very welcoming.
Beautiful location you're in, um, it must be intoxicating. The scenery is without doubt, breathless. I was wondering where you had been, now I know.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful overthere....you have made a lot of nice pictures Adrian.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Joop
Wonderful images Adrian and another lovely warm pub to boot. Coniston is a lovely area to visit with plenty of lovely walks.
ReplyDeleteAAAHHH Adrian, here you are! I thought you had left the country...after talking of being wiser! :))
ReplyDeleteThis new location seems to be quite nice and the landscape full of promises! Looking forward to the snowy shots...WiFi permitting of course!
What a beautiful spot.. love that pub and the scenery is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful Place. Love the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, that looks like a warm fire. I loved the second-to-last image. That's some real winter beauty.
ReplyDeleteAdrian, sounds like a grand place. I love the pictures, especially the one "just looking". Hope you enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteHeavens above Adrian (just a saying but fits the bill) I'm pretty sure that was the pub (looking less up to date than it is now) where, in about 1965/6 a friend and I spent an evening and I met a lass whom I thought was to be 'the one'. Not that I knew it until later but she had inherited the family farm on the death of her father and her brother decided that I was definitely not of farming potential and was therefore definitely not a suitable suitor. He was probably correct!
ReplyDeleteLove the looking South from jetty one.

Great location and some excellent images Adrian. The Church House looks very warm and inviting!...[;o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous foto!
ReplyDeleteJohn, it is a great place. Good scenery and good conversation. Pretty barmaids are the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteJay, they do B&B. It suits me down to the ground. I only ever visit the Lakes in winter. I like places to myself during the day.
Keith, it's a welcoming place all round. Even the farmers are friendly.
Bob, it's that time of the year. A wonderful place but internet is challenging.
Joop, many thanks.
Andrew, I'm glad i came and am going back.
DeeBee, I can't leave the country.....no where else would tolerate me.
Hilary, it is a wonderful area out of season.
Horst, the fireplace is slate. A wonder it doesn't explode.
JoLynne, the second to last is as good as I get at arty.
Gillian, it is wonderful here.
Graham, he was wrong. They are a little interbred round these parts.
John, I was an hour too late. The last of the inversion is just visible. I fell in lust here too.
Trevor, it's a grand pub in an interesting area. Get on your bike before the summer.
Mike, thanks.
