WHERE’STHE ANORAK? (02/07/11)

We haven’t moved as this old quarry at Harmby near Leyburn should have endless photographic potential. I’m not finding it I’m afraid.

The Wensleydale Railway are having a steam weekend. The track runs a few yards from the van but I’ve yet to get a good view point.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   This would work but only once!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  So I settled on this bridge and waited for a good forty minutes for a train to appear.

_7014812_3_4_5_6_tonemappedThis will do.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFirst to arrive. A Tank Engine but going backwards………..no trouble at all for a locomotive. They are happy going in either direction but it did rather mess up the shot.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATwo cameras Tommy am I. I focussed on the flowers and am pleased with this, not too pleased to have got a face full of steam and smoke but I didn’t consider that at the time.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is a LSWR N15 Class locomotive. I hope…….if not. It’s a green, red and black one.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToy Town, a similar shot treated to fake tilt and shift.

I am a bit front to back today………..much like the first loco. We were out early and took a fisheye lens.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    The view from the camper.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The Lime Kilns.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   This is a view………..an over sharpened view looking over the village of Spennithorne.

2011_07_01_080510.obj_edited-1   A Mallard feather twice life size, I tried a teleconverter on the macro lens and focus stacked nine images. Why? Don’t ask me. I’m only the daft blogger. Blogger? That’s how I spell it anyway.

Have a grand weekend.

  1. A lovely set of photos, different styles and effects, all great!

  2. Great shots Adrian. The steam locomotive is Sir Lamiel a *King Arthur* class 4-6-0. It would have worked the Southern Region during its heyday.

  3. Love the train pictures Adrian, and you are right going backwards no problem for them at all. I actually spent Monday afternoon driving a steam train along the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, and actually for the driver going backwards is much easier than going forward, your view isn't obscured by the rest of the engine. So far I've only blogged one photo out of almost 500 that were taken on Monday so if you like steam trains I'm sure there will be more over the next few days!

  4. Dee Bee, I'm still a child at heart......I get so much pleasure from playing with images.

Trevor, many thanks........I looked it up on Wikipedia.......so I did have the name but not the King Arthur bit.

Mark, I will look forward to seeing them. Magnificent machines one and all.

  5. The first vantage point would produce some interesting effects, but not the ones one would want...

My brother would have enjoyed waiting by that bridge in his anorak.

Fascinating set of photos Adrian, my favourite being the feather.

  6. A fine, varied selection Adrian. I love the bridge, and the one after it.

  7. Adrian, beautiful shots, gorgeous contryside. I love the blurry one of the train in motion, too. Are you still in Leyburn? It is my ancestral countryside. Well, Middleham, actually. when I go over to the uk one day (smiles), I hope to visit there and walk where my g. grandparents walked. They had a lodging house in Middleham market place, somewhere between 'The Teapot' tea rooms and Jessamine House. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks for the encouragement!

  9. My father was a railway and steam engine enthusiast; back in the 70s when we travelled in Britain we visited lots of museum railways running steam trains (and a few in Sweden as well of course).

  10. Oh, I used to be an old train enthusiast, but it smells of smoke. Still, it is wonderful.

  11. I love trains. I liked these shots, hope you keep working on them.

  12. With the scarcity of steam locos these days we forget about the smoke when above them. The 'blurred' action shot worked quite well. Seeing those brought back memories of identifying the various liveries when they were all mixed up on trains soon after WWII.
The stacked photo worked out well.

  13. My prep school was bounded on two sides by two different railway lines: one up an embankment and one in a cutting. I spent a lot of time looking at trains. I should have been paying attention to the teachers. I travelled to work on a steam train back in the sixties. You cannae beat them for nostalgia.

Love the feather. It's really taken my fancy.

  14. Jan, it would have caused a delay. This focus stacking has more to it than one would imagine. This one haloed.

Keith, Ta, the one after is HDR.

  15. Helen, Middleham now has a couple of racing stables and is a little wild on Friday and Saturday nights.

    Norma Thanks.

Monica, I love the whole sensation, sound, sight and smell.

Bob, A good job it didn't set my beard on fire.

Jolynne, I hope to get some more today.

    Horst, thank you.

John, I am quite pleased with the blurred one. It's the best of three different ones.
I've been photostacking with very mixed results. The post before ROCKS has a 3D model.

Graham, the feather just fun. They all are....Tickled Pink.

  18. Nice set, I love the third photo.
I was here recently in June doing the vintage bus trip. The struggle the bus had getting in and out of Redmire station was no-ones business.
